Synopsis:

Celebrity photographer Connor Mead (MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY) loves freedom, fun and women...in that order. Connor's brother Paul is more the romantic type. In fact, he's about to be married. Unfortunately, on the eve of the big event, Connor's mockery of romance proves a real buzz-kill for Paul, the wedding party and a houseful of well wishers--including Connor's childhood friend Jenny (JENNIFER GARNER), the one woman in his life who has always seemed immune to his considerable charm. Just when it looks like Connor may single-handedly ruin the wedding, he gets a wake-up call from the ghost of his late Uncle Wayne (MICHAEL DOUGLAS), the hard-partying, legendary ladies man upon whose exploits Connor has modeled his lifestyle. Uncle Wayne has an urgent message for his protege, which he delivers through the ghosts of Connor's jilted girlfriends--past, present and future--who take him on a revealing and hilarious odyssey through a lifetime of failed relationships.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad, but Not Great   November 21, 2009

Movie was alright, but was not the best of McConaughey or Garners movie career although was entertaining and enjoyable.

3 out of 5 stars Same old, same old   November 21, 2009
Cece (Atlanta, GA)
I think Matthew McConaghy (while he's one of my favorites) has outgrown these types of parts. This particular movie is a little off the wall. There wasn't much "meat" to the story at all. Just a waste of time.

This is an excellent movie that I will watch over and over again. Great cast and good story line.

1 out of 5 stars Avoid At All Costs   November 12, 2009

This pathetic adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol should be avoided at all costs. It is unintelligent, immoral, irreverant, uninspiring (except for a couple of minutes towards the end) and altogether disappointing. Charles Dickens must have been turning over in his grave with every worthless frame of film.

5 out of 5 stars Patience, darlin', patience...   November 12, 2009
Steven Cain (Temporal Quantum Pocket)
As Matty said in Dazed And Confused... Yeah, 5 stars may be a little generous, but if you do have the patience to watch the whole movie unfold, you will be rewarded by some beautifully nuanced interaction between Matthew M. and the divinely sweet Jen Garner.

Yep, it's another re-telling of Christmas Carol, but I must say, I really enjoyed it, despite the over the top fatal charm and endless swooning women.

I'm guessing the title was borrowed from a phrase by Hugh Grant in Four Weddings And A Funeral, where he literally mentions 'Ghosts of girlfriends past...'

Michael Douglas almost stole the show with his role as the rascally Uncle Wayne, although, (no disrespect to Michael) I disagree with including a reference to a memorable night involving himself and Steve McQueen and a bunch of air hostesses (that part was fine) and 'a pile of blow the size of a toaster'... After which Matt's character says, 'It sounded like a great night...' No, drugs can never be part of a great night, and I think it's a mistake to include that part of the scene... sorry...

Overall, a great movie, and the way Matthew's character finally comes to his senses is quite touching, due to a powerful performance from MM.
