Doesn't really work in my Senseo July 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Contrary to a couple of the other reviewers, I cannot get these pods to work properly in my Senseo with the standard pod holders. If I use the single cup holder, I cannot close the unit without fear of breaking it, as the pod is larger. Moistening the pod does not seem to help. If I use the double pod holder (and one pod), the unit closes, but the coffee is watery (I presume not enough pressure is built between the nozzles and the pod). Again, moistening the pod helps a little, but not much. I do have one of the first standard Senseo models, so maybe the new Deluxe Senseos, etc... are a little different. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend these pods with the old standard Senseo. I am sure they would be great in other coffee machines, though.
best coffee pods for senseo June 29, 2008 I agree these pods create the best tasting cup of coffee with the senseo machine. You do need the larger pod holder, and it doesn't make as much froth. However, the taste is leaps and bounds beyond the others (and I've tried all of them!). Buy and enjoy !
Where is the flavor? June 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I own a Senseo coffee maker. I started drinking the dark roast that Senseo makes. I was OK. I then tried Fratellos French Saingon Dark. Very good. When Amazon stopped carrying it I decided to try Timothys Rainforest Expresso. I ordered 4 boxes to get free shipping. When I made my first cup it had no flavor at all. Like dark water. I had my wife try some and she does not like strong coffee. She said it was to weak. The pods are very large and contain a lot of coffee, so I thought I was just using it wrong. You have to use the large pod holder so I thought that maybe a spacer to fill any free space in the holder would help. NO. Then I read that you need to moisten the pod before you use it. NO. I have tried everything I can think of to wring some flavor out of these pod to no avail. How a roast that is said to be one of their darker roasts can be so bland was beyond me. I even E-mailed Timothys to see if there might have been a problem with this brand of pods. No response. So now I have 100 pods that I am going to choke down because I hate throwing away money. But beleve me it will leave a bad taste in my mouth for Timothys coffee for a long time.
3.0 Espresso, 2.0 coffee June 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Coffee is a matter of opinion, and here's mine.
As other's have noted, these pods will work with the Senseo using the double pod holder. I found that it helped to "pre-wet" the pod (stick it under the faucet for a second or two) to get a proper seal.
1 cup (single shot) using the double pod holder gives you an approximation of a shot of espresso. Using the "two cup" setting on the Senseo gives you a very pale imitation of a cafe americano (shot of espresso topped with hot water).
Given that I am more interested in a decent cup of coffee, I have found other brands that I prefer. Fratello is one that comes to mind; many of their individual pods work fine in the double-pod holder and will yield a good cup of coffee using the two-cup setting and the two-pod holder. There are many other brands as well (Baronet, Puck, etc) worth considering. Even Target's Archway Farms Pods are pretty good.
The Senseo is not an espresso machine, so getting something out of it that approximates Espresso is a feat in itself. If you want an okay single shot of espresso from your Senseo or other pod brewer, you will likely be satisfied with these pods. If you goal is to use one pod to make a cup of coffee (using the two-cup setting on the Senseo) then I would suggest looking elsewhere.
Works just fine in a Senseo - good coffee June 4, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Many of the reviewers say Timothy's pods don't work in a Senseo. In fact, they're about the best non-Senseo pods out there. Obviously, these reviewers haven't dug the 2-pod holder out of their Senseo machine's box. Timothy's pods contain more coffee, so are too thick to fit in the single-pod holder; if you try, you will experience a small explosion and water all over the place. The 2-pod holder works just fine. They're individually-wrapped to ensure freshness, unlike Senseo bags. The first review here from February is spot on.
