It's now how I remembered it. November 15, 2009 Kecia K. Atlee (Lansing, MI) I used to by this product in a supermarket and would buy at least 1 bag a week. I was very unhappy when I learned that they would no longer carry this product. I then found the product online, but was very disappointed when I received the product. It was much spicier than I remember and the meat itself was not the quality that remembered--it was very tough. I was very, very disappointed with my purchase.
engineer October 1, 2009 William K. Elswick (Chilhowie, Va.) I love this beef jerky! I have eaten as much as 2 lbs. per week after a surgery on my back. With all of the medications I have to take, nothing and I mean nothing had any taste much less a good taste. I first found it at Wal-Mart. I was buying 2 lbs. at a time. Of course Wal-Mart stopped selling this jerky after I got hooked on it a couple of months ago. They substituted it with their own brand which is more expensive and nowhere near the quality. I couldn't take it any more so I went to the net. After seeing 100 bag of this stuff, I remembered the words "World Kitchen". I typed it and there it was. My ship had come in! And the most amazing part was it is bagged in (2) 1 lb. bags just as I would have bought it. And to top that, by using Amazon.com, it is the same price I paid at Wal-Mart and they deliver it to my home.
Yes, I love this beef jerky and I have tried many but this is the best there is. Kevin Elswick
beef takes the back seat June 27, 2009 Doug Stevens 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I tried World Kitchens Old Fashioned Beef Jerky after Golden Valley stopped allowing Amazon to sell their "original" beef jerky via subscription. Both products cost about the same, and both are shipped in a two-pack of 16-ounce bags. That's where the similarity ends. The World Kitchens product includes a host of flavoring ingredients as well as MSG (monosodium glutamate), an additive that boosts "flavor" and is often found in Chinese cooking. Some research shows there are various health concerns about MSG. I find that it has an adverse effect on sleep if eaten late in the day. I didn't really taste the beef as much as I tasted all the flavor boosters. If you don't seal the bag well, the aroma may remind you of old pizza. A substantial portion of the "pieces" of jerky could more objectively be described as "fragments" of jerky they are so small. The Golden Valley product won't knock you over with powerful flavor, but that's because it leaves the flavor up mostly to the beef (fewer added flavors, nothing artificial, and no MSG). Bottom line: the World Kitchens Old Fashioned beef jerky offers a disappointing product at a good price.
Good jerky, but.... April 28, 2009 John Gault (New England) This is good tasting jerky, the problem I had with it is the texture.... It's too soft and crumbly for me.
This is just a personal preference, and it shouldn't keep you from buying this jerky as it is very good tasting. But if you are like me, and require your jerky to be tough and stringy, pass on this one...
Cheap but not a good value April 18, 2009 Ryan Lackey 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This jerky is inexpensive, but it is also cheap. By that I mean it is made from relatively flavorless, low quality cuts of meat, and is heavily treated with sugar, MSG, and nitrates to attempt to add flavor where there was none. Additionally, there is a lot of moisture left in the meat, so it isn't anywhere near as good a value per pound as you'd expect. Plus, the shelf life of each opened 16oz package is 3 days -- if the jerky were tastier, I don't think a 3 day shelf life would be an issue, but as I didn't like it, I ended up giving it away and ordering more expensive but better quality jerky from a merchant not currently on Amazon.
