1 out of 5 stars The Kashi Konnection: A Potential Contender for Global Warming ?   February 1, 2010
Jimmy Lee (Manhasset, N.Y. United States)
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Before I inform the general public about this cereal I will begin by saying that I discovered this cereal at a local Whole Foods store. My abrupt switch over to this cereal was quite spontaneous as Barbara's Bakey original "Puffins" maintained my loyalty for a long time.

Being health conscious and maintaing an active lifestyle for years I thought the Kashi brand had the ability to give me something different; moreover, it's colorful presentation along with it's impressive nutritional facts was very appealing to me. More importantly, the cereal appeared healthy enough to satisfy my nutritional needs without compensating taste. Upon my first experience with this cereal I thought it was safe to say that my initial evaluation was fairly accurate; it was tasty, crunchy, not too sweet and maintained a comfortable resistance to deforming or becoming soggy in my skim milk. However, I thought the texture was a little rough sometimes. (Make sure you chew thoroughly). Apart from that, a great tasting healthy cereal was close to replacing my previous obsession with Puffins until it happened....

Before I was enlightened from my older sister, little did I know that this cereal was the source of an embarrassing, uncomfortable, unpleasant, appalling and even sometimes putrid natural inducing bodily function. I was suffering for weeks with excessive and unbearable cramping, bloating and gaseous flatulence. It was so horrendous and nauseating that I even considering dialing my physician for consultation. Initially, I thought I was coming down with a severe stomach virus, but then again, these symptoms were prolonged for weeks. (Some Virus!!)

It wasn't until my older sister observed the cereal I was eating and she informed me of it's notorious trademark...."Upset Stomach"! (That is a mere understatement, more like explosive, lethal and impulsive gas!) Thats right. Approximately after 2 hours of eating a fairly decent sized bowl of this flatulent inducing potion, you're stomach begins to move and gurgle in ways you couldn't imagine. You're stomach violently and surprisingly morphs into a giant knot that contracts within each passing wind. The bubbling in my stomach simply refused to abate as the most sinister witch continued to stir her evil brew. If you are interested in taking this cereal for a test drive I hope you're sphincter muscles are well equipped and trained for possibly the most enduring athletic decathlon of it's life because it will push it's boundaries to the fullest, and I mean the fullest!! Attempting to hold these persistent flatulence in control will prove to be a very burdensome and wasteful effort. The smell is by far the most wretched and offensive smell that has ever left my body as it caused tears, nausea and shameful thoughts of my body; and if I happened to be in an enclosed area, God have mercy on me. If you plan on leading and fulfilling an isolated life with no friends and no enemies then the Kashi brand will certainly be for you because I don't even think wild animals would want to be around you.

If I could describe the smell of a fresh Kashi flatulent I would describe it as a cross or more plainly put, a mutant and diabolical mix between sour milk, garbage in heat, 3 week roadkill in high humidity and a touch of rotten eggs weaved into a nice long ( and I mean long ) odor filled flatulent. Sometimes I truly believed a little man was inside my stomach pumping Kashi helium into it because it automatically filled up with air every 10 seconds upon release; the Kashi Helium smell lingers and rises with insurmountable and unbelievable force; moreover, it haunted me for weeks as I would revisit different rooms of my house only to be unfortunately greeted with the same fart I released 30 minutes ago!! It was quite depressing and shocking actually. Impressively it also manages to follow you as a green trail will leaves traces behind you. This reprehensible gas had to leave and it had to leave fast, as a result, Kashi cereal had to be exiled from my house and never to return unless it's ingredients go under drastic structural changes.

So what do I think? It tastes absolutely great, the Kashil engineers have that part right. Would I experience this cereal again, heavens NO! Not a chance. I actually plan on leaving my house and interacting with people thank you very much. I conclude this review with attempt at your own risk..

4 out of 5 stars taste is ok but fiber and protien are really good.   January 23, 2010

This cereal will definitely help keep you regular and give you a nice protein fix as well. i dont know of any cereal that has as high a combo of protein and fiber and are multi grain as this....or else I would be buying that. The taste is not bad. its not great but it is definitely more than edible. I am glad amazon has it in 6 packs so I can buy it in my monthly grocery package I buy on Amazon. I agree though the price should be less.

5 out of 5 stars best on the market for those with high blood sugar.   January 3, 2010
MR Cart
This is perhaps the best when it comes to controlling sugar intake and still wanting to have a bowl or even bowel filled with cereal. Amazon price is way too high! well over $4 a box. Even with a current promo of $15 off 50 it still comes out higher than some leading stores, and thats buying a dozen boxes....

Anyway it a great product, Kelloggs (who own and developed 100% of Kashi) have done a great job with this product, just having a reasonable size serving each morning with a small bit of fruit can go a long way to extending the life of a diabetic.

two thumbs up for Go-lean. Two thumbs down for amazons pricing well above market average.

can't go wrong

5 out of 5 stars perfect   November 17, 2009

no need to add any extra sweetener (real or artificial) to this fantastic cereal. it's already plenty sweet without the excessive sugar & carbs that 99% of other cereals have. you'll be hard pressed to find another cereal that matches this in fiber, carb & protein content. i stopped eating 'grape nuts' & 'wheaties' type cereals when i found this much healthier and balanced cereal. i just add blueberries or a banana.

it may be a bit crunchy for some people but that's because it's not 99.9% carbs.
