 Easy but it does smell awful January 12, 2010

This is a handy item to have around for a quick meal. After microwaving for the recommended time, it comes out hot and steaming and smells truly awful. Like some chemical off smell, might be from the packaging. But...it tastes fine once you get past that.

I was alittle reluctant to buy this. instant rice in the microwave is so easy i couldnt see spending the $ on this.
A friend talked me into trying it
Love it, so much better than instant, as good as anything made in a rice steamer
very convenient and easy. a minute and a half in the microwave and it's ready.

I ordered this after reading the reviews here. I had mixed feelings about ordering it, since some people complained about the smell. Decided to go ahead since I thought the other Annie Chun's products turned out pretty good. This one turned out pretty good too. It is quick, just pop it into the microwave and put it on high for 90 seconds and you are done. It is pretty tasty too, perfect consistency. I did notice the smell that others have mentioned, like heated plastic, probably from the plastic bowl it gets microwaved in. That's why this gets 4 stars instead of 5. A friend told me to remove the rice into a ceramic bowl and then microwave it. If it makes a difference, I will come back and update this. In the meantime, this is a great time saver for those quick meals and much, much better than fast food.

I love this product for eating at work or even for quick fixes at home. 2 minutes in the microwave for perfect white rice makes for a very quick and delicious meal. Great with veggies, soy sauce and a source of protein.

Wow, this rice has quite a few positive reviews but I'm really not sure why. I did buy this from the "Clearance sale" - but even then. The rice smells funny and doesn't actually taste much like rice, it tastes just like it smells, funny.
I was hoping for a decent quick and easy meal but this one is not it.
