Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The EVGA NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT PCI-Express Graphics Card has SLI Technology that dramatically scales performance by allowing two graphics cards to be run in parallel. NVIDIA GigaThread Technology enables thousands of independent threads to execute in parallel inside of the graphics core. This delivers extreme processing efficiency in advanced, next-generation shader programs. Also known as the Unified Shader Model, the Vertex shaders, Geometry shaders, and Pixel shaders are combined in to one unified shader. True 128-Bit Floating Point High Dynamic-Range (HDR) allows you to experience cinematic, life-like environments, for an amazing graphics experience. PCI Express 2.0 / 1.1 Support allows 500MB a lane or up to 8 GB/s at 16x speeds - allows for full support for new PCI-E 2.0 graphics cards. NVIDIA CUDA Support accelerates CUDA based applications through the GPU's processing power allowing for faster application performance such as video transcoding. Enjoy more visual immersion with life-like physics for a more dynamic experience with NVIDIA PhysX Ready. Smooth video, accurate colors, precise image scaling, video decode acceleration and post processing, all provided by the graphics card to give you the best HD experience possible. NVIDIA PureVideo HD Technology also offloads from the CPU to help reduce power consumption. Unified Shader Architecture provides an efficient single platform consisting of vertex shaders, geometry shaders, and the pixel shaders. This allows for better performance and visual quality. A portion of the GPU is dedicated to delivering 16x full-screen antialisasing, 128-Bit Floating Point HDR, and support for 2560x1600 resolutions all at incredible image quality and performance.

5 out of 5 stars best performance for the price   November 16, 2008
Waited for a long time to get a reasonably priced graphics card so that I can play Half-life 2. Allows me to play at great frame rates and it should last a couple of years. Installation was a snap. No problems with it so far.

5 out of 5 stars Best Midrange Card for the Money!   October 16, 2008

First off, here are my specs: Dell Inspiron 531 with an AMD 64 X2 4400+ @ 2.4ghz, 3gb ram, and a 250gb hd.

Trust me, I spent countless hours researching which video card was best for me. I wanted to run a good amount of new games without worrying about not meeting the system requirements. If you've read reviews online of the 8800GT/9800GT you'll notice that it's THE midrange card for the performance minded user. I can tell you that this is definitely the case. With my old card (XFX 8600GT XXX overclocked to 620mhz) I was able to score 5329 in 3DMARK06 and run a pretty good amount of games like F.E.A.R. and Call of Duty 4 at medium to medium-high settings with good FPS. With this 9800GT I was able to score an 8368 in 3DMARK06 and run Call of Duty 4, Medal of Honor Airborne, and other games like this at maximum settings (with AA) and get great framerates. Crysis will even run well at medium settings. You'll definitely notice how much better the 9800GT performs. If you want to kick the performance up a bit, EVGA even includes an overclocking utility that lets you make adjustments and monitor the gpu's temperature on screen while playing games.

Now, all that being said, make sure that your power supply unit is at least 400w like the specs ask. I had to upgrade my Dell's puny 300w PSU with a better unit. That's really the only con I can think of. Granted, it's not EVGA's fault that my power supply wasn't up to spec.

All in all, the EVGA 9800GT is a very solid card that I'm very glad with purchasing. And it definitely fits my PCI-E x16 slot.

1 out of 5 stars WOULD NOT RUN IN PCI-E 16X SLOT, ONLY PCI-E 8X!   August 27, 2008

I have a brand new Gigabyte GA-EP45 motherboard. When I installed the EVGA 9800GT onto the PCI-E 16x slot, Windows XP refused to enable it from the Device Manager. The screen would go blank with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner of the screen when I tried. When doing a direct Nvidia driver installation, the screen would blank out during the installation. Windows XP would then revert to it's VGASave drivers which resulted in a slow computer! If I restarted the computer, it would freeze on the Windows XP start screen just before going to the desktop. Yet when the card was put in the PCI-E 8X slot it ran fine all around.

I then tried a PNY 9600GT and RADEON HD4850 card which was fine at 16X with no problems. My power supply is a Antec Earthwatts 500W.
