Leaks! November 15, 2008 I bought this product to use in my office and after just two uses, the unused water leaked out through the plastic window or possibly through the bottom.
Nice Look but (maybe) Not a Keeper October 23, 2008 I've had this kettle for less than a year and while I love the looks and design overall, I am having the same problem that others have mentioned: water leaking out the bottom of the kettle.
Pros: - Nice color, doesn't smudge or look dirty as much as you'd expect - Inexpensive - Round, swivel base (doesn't matter what way you set it down) - Easy to see water level - Comfortable handling, pours nice and easy
CONS: - When left standing with water in it, water leaks out the bottom to form a small (or large) puddle around the base. It's unclear how the water is getting out, because it only seems to happen every other time. - The lid is a little difficult to get off (which could be a pro because you know it wont fall off) and manuver around the handle, but you can simply fill the kettle by tilting it so that the water stream goes into the pour spout.
So, I'll be contacting Black & Decker to get a replacement for this. But for the leaking problem, I would have given it 5 stars. On the plus side, even if I have to replace this once a year, I can buy 2 or 3 for the price that it would cost for another brand kettle.
UPDATE: received the replacement from Black & Decker (didn't even have to send the old one in) and it's been working fine now for 2 weeks.
Kettle Leaks Slowly October 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Black & Decker CK1500R Cordless Electric 57-1/2-Ounce Dome Kettle, Red
I've had one of these B&D model CK1500R kettles for less than a year and during that time is has been used once a week or less. I recently noticed that it leaks slowly through the bottom of the kettle whenever water is left standing in it. I consider this unit very unsafe because anytime water and electricity mix the risk of electric shock is present whether the appliance is 'cordless' or not.
overall, a great buy October 17, 2008 Purchased two of these, one for my daughter and one for myself. Hers started to leak and had to take it back to B&D. Mine has worked wonderfully and I've found other uses for it besides teas and hot cocoa. I boil the water and pour it over food in a pot on the stove. Much faster than waiting for it to come to a boil on the burner! Read a previous review, and I don't have any problem with steam/pouring/filling. Just don't pour boiling water out when the lid is off...
Kettle leaked out of the box October 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Item broken on arrival. Took it out of the box, filled it up with water, hit the boil switch. After the water boiled, I picked it up to find a little puddle of water on the plastic base, and then boiling hot water started leaking on me from the kettle.
Black & Decker is a solid American brand, the item however unfortunately is made is China - with the low build quality to match.
