Product Description Wouldn't this make a great gift for a student, or a commuter? The machine brews right into the thermal travel mug and then shuts itself off, so your favorite coffee lover can simply grab and go!
Amazon.com Review Great for commuters, office professionals, and one-coffee-drinker households, this personal coffeemaker brews 15 ounces of coffee directly into a stainless-steel travel mug. The mug has a rubber handle for a safe grip and a lid to keep coffee hot. It's tapered to a 2-1/2-inch-diameter bottom, so it fits most vehicle cup holders. The coffeemaker itself is designed for an on-the-go coffee drinker. It has a permanent filter--no messy disposable paper filters required--and shuts off automatically after brewing. The mug, filter, filter basket, and mug lid are dishwasher-safe, and the coffeemaker can also be used to heat water for tea, hot chocolate, and instant foods like oatmeal and soup. Made of gleaming black plastic, it measures 9-3/4 inches high, 7 inches wide, and 6 inches deep, and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Great product! November 13, 2008 I researched a lot of products of this type before deciding to purchase this product. It doesn't require expensive pods or filters, you can grind your favorite beans and pour them right in or use your regular morning blend straight from the grocery store. The travel mug is the perfect size and the stainless steel keeps your coffee at a great temperature even until the last drop. For the price, this a great value. I have used mine every day since it arrived. It took a couple of tries to get the perfect amount of coffee for the size of the cup, but once I figured it out, it has been great. One reviewer mentioned the sturdiness of the mug. The handle must have been what he or she was talking about. I wouldn't want to be rough with the handle, but with normal everyday wear, I think it will still hold up to the usage. Great product - perfect price!
Nice and adequate November 11, 2008 If you're making coffee just for one and don't want to mess with a 12 cup pot and the clean up thereafter, this Black & Decker is a pretty good choice. You do need to stick to the recommended 2 1/2 tablespoons of grind. Otherwise, it just clobbs together and you don't get a full mug of coffee. Clean up is mostly a cinch. The netting on the filter is sturdy for now. I do worry about accidently punching through it one day when I'm not paying attention and scrub too aggressively. (Yes, it will survive the dishwasher fine too. But if you use it everyday like I do, you just end up hand washing.) My only real complaint is that it's a little awkward to clean the inside of the unit itself once you take the basket and filter out. There's the 2nd basket which is attached to the unit and grinds sometimes overrun it and the inside of the lid. But you obviously can't dunk the whole unit under running water b/c it still has electrical components within the base.
Overall, however, I'm pretty happy with the coffee maker. Takes up less space on the counter and makes just the right amount of coffee during the week.
Only If You Don't Want the Coffee Hot November 10, 2008 I am not a heavy coffee drinker, but over the last few months I've gotten into the habit of drinking a tall coffee each morning from the store across the street from my job. To save money, I decided I should get a small personal maker for my daily cup. On the surface, this seemed like the idea coffee maker for someone like me as it brews only a single large mug straight into a nice portable mug with a spill-resistant lid. Unfortunately, it has no lived up to its image. The coffee does not come out hot at all, its barely lukewarm as the included mug is not microwave safe, it can't be used to heat the coffee up to the proper temperature. It also is lacking any sort of "keep warm" function, turning itself off before the coffee is even done coming out. I am very disappointed in this particular maker and am returning it. I will say, though, if you don't like your coffee hot, it does brew nicely. The included filter is very easy to clean and works quite well. I just prefer an actual hot cup of coffee.
Great gift November 8, 2008 I'm in the process of ordering a 3rd one. Mine is 3 years old and still going strong. I bought one for my dad last year, and ordering one for my brother-in-law this year.
The best feature is the AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF. No more being down the street and wondering if you turned the coffee pot off. Also, being a single person, a pot of coffee went to waste. Even if I want another cup, it's fast, easy, and fresh.
I've never had a problem with "lukewarm" coffee. In fact mine makes it to hot to drink (I'm not a coffee sipper). So I will start it, finish getting dressed, and my coffee is perfect. Also I've never had a problem with spillage.
I don't think you'll be unhappy with this product!
Safe, Energy Efficient & Quick Results November 6, 2008 I have read enough about the health hazards of microwave ovens to send me screaming into the night, and I refuse to use them to heat water.
As for the stovetop, tea kettles tend to corrode and what if you forget to turn the burner off??? This model shuts itself off after the job is finished.
This is my go-to method to heat water. I have one at home and one at my office.
The permanent, reusable filter is another "green" aspect of this product. Depending on what I am brewing, I sometimes choose to use a tea infuser.
Think a little outside the box, and this will work for instant soup, ramen noodles, etc.
I would never go back to either the microwave or the stovetop. This item is a "must-have" for both my home and office.
