| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Review With 12 speed options, a large, easy-access ice-crushing button, and a pulse control, this powerful 400-watt blender provides precise control for every need from stirring pancake batter to grinding coffee beans to whipping cream to creating frozen margaritas. Smoothies, soups, chip dips, bread crumbs, chopped onions, and dozens of other items come out with exactly the texture and consistency desired. The blender's large, 42-ounce glass jar and four-plane stainless-steel blade assembly are dishwasher-safe, and the speed buttons are arrayed vertically on the base for easy cleaning. The jar's lid cap doubles as a 2-ounce measuring cup. The wide, stable base rests on nonslip rubber feet that also serve as a cord wrap to reduce counter clutter. The blender stands 16-1/2 inches high and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Find Another Blender - Not This One July 28, 2008 The Black and Decker Company Should be ashamed of having their name on this blender. After sitting unused for over 2 years, we got it out when our KitchenAid blender failed. It worked the first time, but the second time we tried to use it, it was completely dead. Of course, it's well over the warranty period. If there are still any of them out there for sale, please strongly consider not purchasing one.
Great Gift May 27, 2007 I bought this for my cousin and she loves it. Very durable and good quality.
Avoid this blender March 13, 2007 The reason I bought this blender is because it was a good price and a name brand. From the first time I plugged it in, I could smell burning rubber every time it ran, regardless of what I was mixing. On the plus side, it seemed to do the trick in a pinch, although I haven't tried anything as demanding as ice cubes. Eventually, I got rid of this blender in place of a more expensive model, not because it broke, but because I was tired of using something so shoddily made.
Run away from this August 28, 2006 I bought this blender 3 months back and hardly used 10-20 times. Then on one fine day, suddenly the blade stops turning even though you can hear the motor running. Looks like there is nothing wrong with the base or the motor, it would never do its job of grinding or blending. I didnt expect Black and Decker product would fail soo early.I bought the hand blender too from them and its the same story with it as well. Motor stopped working, with no prior indications. DONT BUY THIS EVEN IF YOU GET IT CHEAPER.
Maybe they started making them in China? April 24, 2006 Did they change the plant location in 2003? Every product that has its production line moved to China has at least a doubling of defects, sometimes a lot more. That's what you get from underpaid, overworked, exploited, disposable workers. This blender my sister bought me three years ago has Made in Mexico on the bottom and is still going strong. It's very heavy duty. I put it up against a vintage 1200 watt unit (sounded like a piece of construction equipment) and the Pro Blend consistently did better. I think it has something to do with the blade geometry more than power. Too much power and flat blades flush with the bottom will simply blend the same region continuously. If you're trying to puree a chicken, well then you might need 1200 watts. But this 400 watt unit has a lot of torque for such a rating. The 700 watt-range Bosche Universal Kitchen Machine blender attachment is probably the best blender in existence and does a lot more. It's also considerably less noisy, though the 600B is much better in this regard than the 1200 watt monster. We're talking 350 bucks for the Bosche, so the Black and Decker isn't too shabby. The problem I had was after the two year point when the blade assembly cracked from abuse -- I'd shake the whole thing like a maniac while chopping ice. Fifteen dollars later and they sent me a new, razor-sharp replacement that has more metal and is unlikely to have such a problem in the future. You need to go through the service phone system, leave a message with the main facility, and then return the specific department's message during business hours. The phone number is in your manual. I still want a Bosche UKM for...well...chopping and stuff, but this model already has my back on the blender front until then. If you have the money and want more features, go for one of those.
