Aiwa HP-JS36 headphones are fabulous July 7, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This review is for the Aiwa HP-JS36 headphones which look identical to the JS35. I don't know what, if any, differences may exist.
These are fabulous headphones. They sound great, very clear and detailed with plenty of non-boomy bass. They are very loud and crisp. I can run my MP3 player at a lower volume, extending the battery life. The sound is amazingly well balanced, with a very wide range, yet not screechy or boomy. I listen mostly to acoustic jazz and classic R&B, with a little symphonic music mixed in.
The single wire design simplifies things nicely and the in-line volume control is very convenient and very tiny so it's not in the way when you are not using it.
These are the first "vertical" headphones I've used. The earbuds do not cover your ear canals, they slide in sidways, facing forward. Outside noises are not blocked and the sound has an excellent "openness," more like listening to speakers than headphones. I suppose that, if you have very small ear canals, these may not be comfortable, but I can't feel them. I don't even notice when I have them on, except for the great music. I'm more aware of the swoop on my neck than the earbuds in my ears.
I use these headphones while riding my bicycle and wind noise is sometimes a problem, they aren't as quiet as the in-ear-canal earbuds I was using before. They don't interfere with my helmet or my sunglasses in the regular position, but I usually wear them upside down because it is easier to pull them on and off. Aside from switching left and right, there is no effect on the sound quality, which remains superb.
Turning my head sometimes pulls the earphones out of position, degrading the sound. This also happened on my earbuds, but with the Aiwa, the swoop pushes the earphones back into correct position. Very nice.
These are great headphones at ridiculously low price. I think DakMart is closing out the leftover units when Aiwa pulled out of the US headphone market. Buy a pair before they run out. You won't regret it.
Not worth it June 27, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
After reading all the reviews, ordered one for myself from Aiwa for running and gym. First, the swoop was a little too long with no way to adjust the length, which lead to an uncomfortable feeling with headphones sort of hanging down and touching the back of neck (not the lightest of headphones too). I have tried a dozen other headphones and never had something that was so out of proportions. I guess they are desinged to be worn with some sort of head gear. Second, headphones rendered useless on day two of my workout with the right ear speaker giving up because of sweat, definitely not water resistant. The In-Line Volume control feature is pretty good (though the slider is a little hard to move esp. if you are running), only if the headphones had lasted a bit more. So far I have had better luck with Koss Spotclip and Sony MDR Vertical headphones for running/gym use. One thing I don't understand is why do all these sport headphones come with such long cords. For the two popular wearing configurations of around the neck or on the arm, the cord is just too long and gets in your way.
A great buy for the money. May 18, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought these headphones based upon the reviews I read here to replace a Sony MDR J10 that I was using with my MP3 player. These headphones are perfect. They fit very snuggly, assuring great sound, and they stay in place (just make sure the cord is on the right ear). The single cord does not get tangled and the headphones play much louder than the Sony (the built in volume control is nice too). As for the sound, the treble and base are much better than the Sony and the music comes in loud and clear. I highly recommend the Aiwa Hp-JS35.
Excellent fit and sound for running. October 26, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I purchased 2 pairs of these headphones 6 months ago. The sound quality and fit is excellent. I do have one complaint, however. For some reason, the right channel (the one without the cord connected to it) on both sets has faded and I cannot get it back to the same volume level. I am going to replace them with the same brand because they are so good in every other way.
a great buy September 18, 2003 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is a great product 25 dollars can buy. When my headphones got broken at work, I went out and bought this at radioshack during lunch after I read the reviews on amazon{.com}. Consequently I am very happy with my decision. The egonomical design and sound quality are its two top qualities. Unlike the earbuds I owned before, once this's in my ears, I didn't feel the need to keep pushing it in all the time. I could even hear clearly the piano playing in a mixture of the background music, that ususaly is a sign of good sound quality. There are moments I am just at awe with it's surround stereo quality. All in all, this is a very good product for a small amount of money.
