I'm in love! November 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought two, and have had them for about 3 weeks -- 6-cell, 160GB disk, XP. This machine is absolutely terrific. The only downside is the trackpad, which is admittedly a turkey -- I bought a little HP travel mouse that I tote around. Battery life is close to 6 hours -- I can fly from DC to Seattle and have more than an hour left at the end. (This is the first time ever that I don't think about laptop battery life.) The form factor is wonderful. The keyboard is great -- absolutely no complaints. Performance is fine. Display is nice and bright. And for $400! I'm absolutely delighted with this machine.
Best Netbook November 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am so happy I purchased this unit. This is a great model. I love my Aspire One netbook. It is so small, even lighter than a Mac Air, and has the power to run the programs I use daily. Plus 6 hours of battery life! The Amazon price is also the most competitive.
I haven't noticed any excessive fan noise, probably due to the v.3305 bios update that was preinstalled. The keyboard is in fact small, but takes only a small amount of time to get used to. I am amazed that some don't understand that this lightweight netbook doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. If you have a desktop and a home network, just share your CD drive and you can install any program you have from that disk. I installed Microsoft Office 2007 from my desktop-shared CD drive with no problems at all. You DON'T need to purchase an external drive if you already have a computer that has a CD drive.
Great Little Machine!! November 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This Acer w/160 GB and 6-cell battery,(I ordered the white) just rocks! Mine has no noise from the fan. As other reviewers have stated, it does not have an optical drive, so I purchased an external USB powered one for under $100. The case I ordered from Amazon "Acer Aspire One 8.9" Mini-Notebook Premium Memory Foam Pouch Case with Front Pocket - (Black)", holds the Acer netbook, the optical drive w/USB cord, and my Verizon USB broadband thingy w/case. I even installed an HP Multi-Function printer for light home use. This combo is going to be great for traveling. I can just slip the case with all the goodies into a tote/handbag with the ability to view movies (DVD drive inserted) using headphones. Wow! Did I mention also one can use a flash drive for files you don't want to load? Very compact arrangement this little netbook has offered us!
Serves a purpose November 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've owned this little netbook for about a month and here are my conclusions:
PRO: Good keyboard Plenty of ports Good battery life
CON: Noisy fan runs constantly Trackpad is tiny & annoying to use Hinge on screen has limited motion Ports are not covered and can collect dirt easily
The old adage "you get what you pay for" certainly applies here.
