Works great November 7, 2008 Installed the ELV1 thermostat and it works great. Easy to program and set. Calling for more heat is just a push of a button and it goes back to origional settings on the next cycle. Did the installation myself. I had some questions about the number of wires in the wall versus the two on the thermostat but an electrician friend and Bob's do-it-yourself on line page helped a lot. Basically if you have four wires you install this on one leg and wire the other together. Please see a good diagram to understand this. It is not difficult but a visual helps to understand. Good info on line if you search "wiring".
Great programmable thermostat for the price! October 31, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This thermostat works well and is by far the cheapest programmable thermostat for electric baseboard heaters out there. The price rivals most ordinary digital thermostat with no programmable functions at most big hardware stores. The only problem with this thermostat is that it is a single pole thermostat, So there will always be power to the heater all year round, (it does not turn off). You must shut off breaker to turn the heater and the thermostat completely off.
energy saver October 11, 2008 I all ready one of these items in use and love it. Electric heat is more difficult to find this item for and now I need to save energy this year so I started looking for this item in the stores and couldn't find them so I finally sent for them through amazon.com and with in a week I had them to put in all the rooms. They work great.
Only one that works with my basic heating. October 5, 2008 This was a great find. They do not sell anything like it at Home Depot or Lowe's like this. I have tried but they just don't make these for my heating situation. I had forced air wall heaters in each room of my condo, each with a separate thermostat. My old thermostats just had a temperature control that was so inaccurate, the rage was +/- 10 degrees. (Cheap mechanical thermostats.) The ELV1's are amazing. I have been waiting a long time to find a product like this. I have saved so much money since this thing is programmable. On and off whenever you want. Weekdays and weekends with different programs and I can control each room to exact temps. I guess in the scheme of things this is just a programmable thermostat but, show me another that will work with basic wall heaters.
It does have it's drawbacks, but . . . . . June 10, 2008 It does have it's drawbacks, but all in all, I am glad that I purchased it. The main drawbacks are that the display lettering is small, and there is no backlight. I keep a little LED keychain light nearby to see the display when it's darker in the room. Programing it is easy, and the overide function is quick and accessible.
