I worked out how to set it up the first time, only minor spillage, but no big deal in my opinion. My problem with it (and the reason I give it only 1 star) is that the can only worked fine for about a year and a half. But after that year, the rubber gasket that seals the valve to the can (sits inside the black threaded part) got eaten away by the gas vapors or exposure to gas during refueling, and now it leaks like crazy, pouring gas everywhere. Unless you want to replace the gasket every year or so, I suggest using a different means to store and dispense gas.
The valve is hardly an environment helper if you have to toss the plastic can away into a landfill every year.

I had the EXACT same issues that another reviewer mentioned. The EPA intended this new design to cut down on spills and emissions, but my first attempt to use this can resulted in me spilling more gas than I ever did with the old design. When I went to the Blitz web site to complain, I found the proper instructions on using the can.
In a nutshell:
1) The spout is not intended to go back in the can after each use. You should leave it attached outside. The valve will prevent the vapor from escaping. Yup, not the best design for transporting.
2) You need to remove the rubber gasket from its position when you first bought it and make sure it is between the spout and can. This will prevent leaking from the collar area.
My can lacked instructions too, so I naturally tried to use this can like the old design, and that's when the spills occurred.
I gave it 3 stars for the lack of instructions and the not-so-practical design. Hope this helps others!
Worst gas can ever April 24, 2006

This honestly has to be the worst gas can I have ever seen. I would much rather use the old metal can with the pull-out spout that my dad used than this piece of junk. Here's why:
First and foremost, it spills gas everywhere. The whole selling point advertised on the front of the can is that it protects against spills. It does this is by putting something like a valve inside the nozzle. So, when you tip it into your tank, you have to push it in and to allow gas to flow. This is a nice idea. However, while you're tipping it up to get the nozzle into your tank and until you start pushing it to let the gas out, it spills out of the screw-on part of the cap. I tightened it as tightly as I possibly could and examined it pretty closely and there was no way to avoid spilling. To use this gas can without spilling, you would have to throw away the nozzle it came with and buy a funnel. This would do a *much* better job of preventing spills than the mechanism they have. In addition to this type of spill, I had difficulty spilling gas out when I removed the nozzle from the can to attach it. I believe this is also because of the type of nozzle they have. When you remove the nozzle from the can and flip it over, gas pours out from the inside of the nozzle, even if you let it drain as much as possible before turning it over.
The second complaint I have with this gas can is that there is no indication of how to use the 'no spill' feature of the nozzle. They don't tell you anywhere on the packaging that you have to push it into your tank in order to let the gas out. So, the first time I used this, I kept tipping the tank up and had no gas coming out the nozzle and lots of gas leaking out the cap (see paragraph above).
Finally, the last major complaint I have with this can is the safety cap. It has a semi-childproof cap where a little nub sticks up from the can and you are supposed to have to push a small catch on the cap to allow it past the nub on the can. Unfortunately, when you tighten the cap, it doesn't actually tighten far enough to go past the nub. The result? The child safety feature can never be engaged.
So, to summarize, this can is advertised as a no-spill container, yet it spills gas everywhere. It also has a childsafety feature which never engages. This is absolutely teh worst gas can I have ever seen. I recommend finding a different brand. If this is the only one you can find (it's the only one I've been able to find in my area), then buy a funnel and discard the nozzle that comes with this.
