    Amazon.com Product Review
Easily the T-Rex of weed eaters, Poulan's Dual-Cut Wheeled Trimmer features a 16-inch cutting swath for whacking down whole fields of weeds fast. Two oversized wheels with burly traction mean easy transport over rugged terrain and no shoulder strain from packing a heavy-duty trimmer around. Great for trimming around long stretches of fence, in gullies, and around water, the 31 cc engine powers 1.15-inch- diameter line to zip through feisty thistle, stubborn grass, and tenacious piles of tumble weeds. Ten-inch, high-traction wheels truck over rough terrain that'd easily roll other wheeled trimmers. A heavy-duty cutting head is built for years of brutal use. A dual exit for the fixed-line offers twice the cutting power while a cushioned handle offers optimal comfort and control. The purchase includes trimmer line and is covered by a Poulan 2-year warranty. Brian D. Olson

3 out of 5 stars Powerful but Light   July 17, 2008
This is a good product, however it is limited to where you can use it. I still use my old Robi for the tough stuff. Has plenty of power but eats up line if you run it fast. Ideal for small yard or old folks that can't carry a weed-eater around.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Purchase!   July 7, 2008
I am really pleased with my purchase of the Weed Eater Wheeled Gas Trimmer. Weed Eater 16-Inch 31cc Gas-Powered Dual-Cut Wheeled Trimmer #WT3100 I have over an acre of land, which contained a lot of tall weeds (from crab grass to sage brush). I have used it on the toughest weeds and ran it from a full tank to when it was empty. I thought I was going to have to purchase an expensive "field and brush" mower, but this did the job. The wheels are great (currently have lower back problems) and you can use it anywhere. Even without the back problems, I would prefer the wheeled version over my prior shoulder strap models.

4 out of 5 stars Results will vary, depending on your use...   June 13, 2008
This gadget works well for certain uses and conditions, and not others.
As we all know, you need to choose the right tool for the job.
This tool will not work well in all situations, for all applications.

I live in Panama, where the grass is tall and stringy, plus there are many obstacles to deal with, like rocks, stumps, plants and flowers that you don't want to cut, etc...
That is why a regular lawnmower is not the tool of choice here.
Here, they use hand held weed wackers to mow entire yards. It is the official Panamanian lawnmower. Hardly anyone uses a regular lawnmower.
It is either that, or by machete. Imagine that!
It is normal to see men cutting acres of 4 or 5 foot tall grass and weeds manually with machetes.
This is a high tech tool for here, folks!

It works great for me here, with my 500 square meter lot.
It is my Panamanian lawnmower of choice, and it works MUCH better than a hand held weed wacker or machete.

The only design flaw I have seen is the rope starter will rub and chafe, if used as designed in the handle holder. To avoid that, I removed it from the handle holder for straight direct pulling.
Thanks to that flaw, the rope is the first part I will have to replace.

Of course, the narrow wheel base, could be an issue in certain conditions, but that is to be expected and accounted for.
I did not find keeping it upright, even on VERY uneven terrain, to be a problem. So what if it gouges the grass here and there. No big deal.
So does a hand held machine or lawnmower.
It is MUCH lighter and more controllable than a regular lawnmower.

Overall, it gives much better results than hand held weed wacking, or machetes, and is much easier to use. There is nothing more to expect here.

It is a cross between a lawnmower and weed wacker, which is the perfect lawnmower for here. It will cut through 1 foot tall, thin, stringy grass as fast as you can walk. That is wonderful for here.

The only thing I would want is a 32" width cut, without paying twice the price, and having twice the weight. Maybe next year's model...

    4 out of 5 stars Love / Hate Confessions of a Weed-Whacker   June 3, 2008
Having 14 acres of hilly, dusty, gopher-hole ridden land in the Sierra Nevada foothills I am no stranger to weed wackers of all description.

I am constantly looking for a strong, lightweight unit for acerage where I can't use a riding mower or a 6-h.p. rotary wheeled trimmer.

This little unit looked perfect. Alas - it must have been "built on a Friday" so to speak.

It arrived without its screen engine cover properly attached. Ten minutes of fiddling fixed that small problem.

After mixing the 40:1 gas/oil combo I fired it up. No problem - the engine sprung to life immediately. Oh - one major problem - the trimmimg head would not rotate. Seems the drive shaft was "too short" and did not engage with the engine.

Didn't they check that at the factory!?

Thankfully I realized what the problem was and knew (from years of tinkering with other machines) how to fix it. The engine housing screws simply had to be loosened and the drive shaft pushed farther up into the unit until it engaged the engine. Easier said than done.

The screws to make the fix were located underneath the screen engine cover with no "play" available to slide the cover back and reach the screws. Tin snips solved the problem. I cut two small holes in the screen above the screws through which to insert a hex wrench.

It only took about another hour to finish the tinkering and secure and tighten all screws and nuts. This should have been part of the quality control process at the factory.

One cold "Bud" later I fired up the unit again and headed out into the field.

Works like a champ - though it's a little slender at the base and tips over easily on hills. I am going to solve that by inserting a longer axle and widening the base.

CONCLUSION: A great little unit which would have been even greater if they had only put it together properly to begin with.

P.S. - There was a price drop within days after I received the unit and the Amazon Customer Service was first rate in immediately processing a refund for the difference!
