Mine's appx. 50-60 years old and still going October 16, 2008 I have my father's well-used Lufkin folding rule and I still use it today - dings, loose extension, paint splatters, and all. There is no better tool for inside measurements. It does not break down like a tape measure (think of typical tape measure kinks from folding). It stays in place where you lay it, unlike a tape measure. The edges are flat, making precision measurements easier (precision here in the carpentry context, not engineering accuracy). It slides easily into a pocket or apron. It's still made pretty much the same way and to the same level of quality, and if I needed another one, I would still buy the Lufkin.
Worksmanship not the greatest June 14, 2008 I have used the folding rule for years while doing interior trim work. Nothing is easier to use for inside measure. My old Lufkin rule became loose at the joints and at the brass extension after much use. The new rule is already loose at the extension right out of the box. There is no apparent way to "tighten" up the slide so I guess I'll just have to live with it. "They don't build em like they used to"
Best for carpentry work August 6, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This Luskin folding rule is the absolute best for doing carpentry work. After years of using a traditional metal tape measure I've gone back home to the wooden folding rule.
My grandfather who was a master carpenter used these exclusively. They are great because they lay flat on surfaces and don't jump around like traditional tape measures. The extending end gives you easy perfect measures on inside sections easily. I would suggest paying a few bucks more and get this one because that metal extender is a life saver.
The construction is sturdy and made to last a lifetime. The markings are clear and easy to read.
