I bought this model due to some of the reviews of the other model stating it was somewhat cheap plastic. This one is solid. The only thing I would have added to the design of this model would be the function of being able to hook this over a rafter. You would think that a better model would include the features of the lesser model plus more. So far I have used this to attach to a top plate (2x4 flat) so I did not need to hook over a rafter. You need to push the pin in far so it doesn't tilt and make the measurement off.

I love finding a tool designed for the pro's. If you set metal frame doors for a living, this is a great tool. I used the original to set several door frames at work one day and had to get one. Its a great time saver,easier to carry then a 6"level, and no batteries.

I have the older verion and was very happy with it, so can only believe that this new improved version is great. HOWEVER, at that price one is very close to a laser plumb bob (which I use now)and speed and accuracy of the laser can't be beat.
