 great value gadget October 25, 2008
I have had this for almost 6 months and it works like a champ. It is easy to use and gives consistent readings. It was much cheaper than other similar models. Make sure you do a quick finger test to make sure you have turned it off - I've killed one battery because I forgot to turn it off.

I ordered this meter from Orchid-depot.com. The meter will not work on wood. The only contact information for this seller is via email and seller will not respond to my request to return the defective product. Do not by from this seller!

I bought this meter because I am going to try to resaw and mill some of my own flooring and trim and I want to make sure the wood is stable(dry) before I go to the trouble. I am also using it to check moisture in firewood before I burn it or buy it.
I don't know how accurate the meter is but it seems to be consistent, although the readings can vary greatly at different depths. The more expensive meters have probes to hammer into the wood and that would probably be the best way. I cut or split a sample and test immediately to get a "core" sample because it is hard to push the meter probes very far into wood esp. hardwoods.

I installed the battery and checked the operation on some green wood and on some seasoned/dry wood and it worked great.
The next time I tried to use it nothing happened, it wouldn't work so I bought another new battery and installed it. Still nothing, My suggestion would be "not to buy this item"
At over $40 ship and handling to check one piece of wood is really expensive.
