 Would be 5 stars if it had variable speed October 7, 2008
I service office electronic equipment and need to R&R many machine screws. This little baby makes short work of it. Almost always use the high speed and the bit set is an extra little bonus. For $100, never but for around $30, it's great. Battery lasts for better than a week. I may pick up more tools from this line as B&D is discontinuing them. It is strictly on-off, no variable speed, but you get used to it.

THIS LITTLE SCREW DRIVER WILL SUPRIZE YOU WITH ITS POWER! I FIND IT TO HAVE MORE POWER THAN MY SNAP-ON DRIVER THAT IS THREE TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE.I WAS ALSO ABLE TO TO GET A COUPON ON LINE FOR AN EXTRA FREE BATTERY. THIS IS SUCH A GOOD TOOL,I USE ONE AT WORK EVERY DAY & I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE FOR HOME USE. I AM 58 YEARS OLD AND ANY TOOL THAT CAN MAKE WORK EASIER & FASTER IS A BIG HELP TO ME.THE BATTERY IS GIVES EXCELLENT SERVICE ALSO.Black & Decker VPX1101X Li-Ion VPX 7-Volt Screw Driver
 Good not great home/hobbiest driver September 20, 2008
Without a clutch this driver is handicapped. I build computers and need a driver for the many screws that have to be removed and replaced. I use the Black & Decker VPX1201 Drill Driver because it has a clutch. A bit heavier but the clutch makes all the difference!
Great little screw driver if you can get it on sale September 15, 2008
I actually caught this when it was on sale for $26.93. If I had paid $40-$50 I probably would not have given it 5 stars, but for the price I paid, it's a really nice little screw driver. Plenty of power for little jobs around the house. I just used it to install childproof latches on all my cabinets. Worked like a charm. Sure, it would be nice if it had a clutch or variable speed, but it does have 2 speeds which you can select. And speed 1 is slow enough that you can just do little pulses with the trigger for fine screwing. The drillbit/driver set that comes with it is handy. I used one of the drillbits to creat starter holes for my screws. So overall, I think it's a good little tool if you can get it for the sale price. Wish I had bought a few more to give as gifts.

I was looking for a replacement for my B&D PD600 screwdriver and thought this would be worth a try for the sake of having replaceable batteries. My PD600 lasted over 2 years and is still working, with some minor problems. After a month of using the VPX1101X daily the selectable speed switch stopped working. When it did work it was randomly binding up 3/4" of the way to either side. I decided to take a look inside to see what the problem was and found plenty of cheap looking plastic parts that were fairly loose even when assembled. The speed switch is attached to a small metal half-ring that engages/disengages a set of gears--it popped out of the gear it seats in and lifts.
It does work again, but next time I'll buy something more durable. To echo most other reviews about the cheap feel of the plastic I do agree with that. It gets dirty and chips very easily and none of the controls feel solid in any way.
