Better solution for tall roofs? November 2, 2008 Two story houses with high roofs are a tough reach. I need about 30 feet of pole to reach the peaks, so this product (while clearly very useful) unfortunately won't work for me. Any suggestions?
Works Great, but watch the heavy snow. April 5, 2008 I live in Idaho where I had about 3 feet of snow on the north side of my house. This product worked very well. I safely removed at least 3 hours worth of snow shoveling in about 20 minutes while standing on the ground below. However, I did manage to bend the supports without knowing it. You simply extend the handle and direct it to the bottom of the snow as wheels safely glide over shingles allowing the snow to break off and slough off on the shoot - watch your head! I had some heavy snow, so here's a tip; if the going gets tough don't force the unit as is can bend and develop a sort of snow-sail making it much more difficult to jam into the drift. I grabbed some wire and reinforced it. Next year I will do a better job of reinforcing it and I'm sure it will be ok. I think they should make a tougher tubular connection so the thing doesn't bend. Otherwise, don't hesitate to buy. Worth every penny!
Michigan Winters March 31, 2008 I used one of these products years ago and they worked good then. Since that time they have made several great improvements that have only made the product better. Living in Central Michigan the Avalanche gets quite a workout and is well worth the money.
Not for mountain snows! March 22, 2008 The Avalanch worked great for fresh snowfalls of a foot or so, but at my mountain cabin (Colorado), it was overwhelmed by the two and three foot snowfalls that are common. I was wishing for aluminum rather than fibre glass poles. The fibre glass is just too flexible and heavy creating a cumbersome and unwieldy tool. It didn't take long to crack one of the poles. If the manufacture used lighter, sturdier poles, I would give this product a rousing recommendation. As it stands, the Avalanch did not meet my needs.
Avalance 300 March 2, 2008 The Avalanche 300 really worked. It was wonderful in that you didn't have to climb a ladder to clear the roof. Adding the poles to extend the length was very easy to do. Even just one person can operate this. My roof was never damaged by the Avalanche. Our snow was heavy and still the Avalanche removed it. I think my neighbors enjoyed watching me use this amazing and wonderful tool!!! Many thanks to the manufacturer of Avalanche!!!
