Wide tolerances, but what do you expect for the $$? August 11, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
3.5 stars. It came with a cracked handle (not from Amazon) which I repaired rather than fool with a return/exchange (-1 star). It took a lot of time to flatten the sole until I got access to a belt sander (-0.5 star). The chip breaker needed to be flattened to fit the iron, but frog fit was good, and the mouth was square. The frog adjustment knob has moderate backlash, but is a minor annoyance. After all the tuning, the plane produces thin fluffy shavings without chatter. If I had to do it all over again, I'd find a vintage Stanley/Bailey, but I'm satisfied with the end product. The 3.5 stars rating is a function of tool quality and economy.
