Great Lock February 11, 2008 My High School uses these in their locker rooms and they work great. Very easy to use and to program a new code is simple. Durable too, mine has fell many time on the concrete floor and it still looks brand new.
Master Lock are very easy to compromise. Not a good locks at all. January 7, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Check it out on youtube. Search for "Master Lock". You'll see a whole bunch of locks of the "Master Lock" brand, easily compromised, including this 175D one! Some of them a little easier, some of them a little harder. One thing is clear: you just can not trust locks of this brand and that's that. Well, it might be possible that there ARE some version of locks of this brand that are good, but seriously, when you start looking at these videos you'll see that it kind of locks like this whole brand of locks just plain sucks. I got started of my rant because yesterday I bought a cheaper version of this lock (630D), with 3 digits. It was wrapped in plastic so I couldn't play with it in the store. It only costed $7. I could open this lock in 20 seconds with no tools whatsoever. I pulled on the lock while rotating the digits. The digits just snapped into place, one by one. It's just too embarrassing to call this a lock, because it's just a plain joke. Cheap Chinese stuff? On the back of the package, it yacks about how it's made in China, but under strict specifications of the Master Lock company. It's ridiculously badly made. I'm very outraged, because I was going to use it on a school locker and could have lost all kinds of stuff.
Lock freezing December 12, 2007 I live in NH and use the lock on a storage shed. Sometimes it does freeze in cold weather. I take it into the house to warm it up and melt any ice. I then blow dry it and spray WD-40 into the lock. This usually lasts 6 weeks or so. The no key option is worth the maintainence. Here's a tip: If I expect a snowstorm, I make sure I can open it the night before, and then tie an old sock around it to keep the weather out.
Great deal, and works very well October 10, 2007 We bought two of these to put on the out side barns; you can enter your own code which is much easier to remember, and coded both with the same code. We would invariably be working outside and have to run into the house to get the keys for the old lock. We have look all over for a lock to be used outside and combination on the bottom. As usual, you can find it on Amazon. Thank you Amazon for great a value...Loyal Amazon Customer
Excellent Setable Lock October 9, 2007 This lock appears to be the same lock my dad used on his boat for 40 or so years, and it always worked smoothly. I bought a dozen of them to lock different things around our farm (equipment, sheds, gates, etc.), so we could have a single combination to remember. They are easy to set, and easy to open. These are great locks.
