Product Description Vornado heaters use vortex action technology to fully circulate the warm air throughout the room. This is unlike most space heaters that heat the space directly in front of the unit with the heat immediately rising to the ceiling. The Vornado EH1-0034-06 Automatic Vortex Heater uses automatic climate control that adjusts the heat output and fan speed higher or lower at all times to maintain the set temperature. This eliminates annoying hot and cold cycles where the heater shuts off allowing the room to cool and then turns back on to heat the room up again. This household heater is whisper-quiet and has advanced safety features to provide worry-free use.

Didn't do the job November 7, 2008 I read through many reviews of the various vornado heaters and finally decided to purchase this heater. I thought it might help out in my cold living room.
I live in an old victorian. The living room has bay windows, a side window along with an adjoining dining room which has two windows. Both rooms measure about 12x30 and the ceilings are about 10'. Tough area to heat with all the windows.
Come home at 5:30 and anxiously set up the vornado in the living room, setting its temperature to 70 and lowering the gas heater to 62 degrees. The temperature outside is about 38 degrees.
7PM, an hour and a half later, the temperature outside has dropped to 32. The living room temp has risen about 3 degrees. 9PM, I'm putting on an extra sweater and the gas heater keeps kicking on as if the vornado doesn't exist. 10:00PM, I put on my throw blanket and the cat quickly dives under it with me.
At 10:30PM, five hours later, the water I'm drinking is as cold as if it came out of the refrigerator and by now BOTH cats are under the throw blanket with me. The temp outside is 30. I give up and turn off the vornado. Haul out my trusty $30, 400/800 watt quartz heater and turn it to the 800 watt setting.
11PM, gas heater has stopped turning on. I've taken off the throw blanket and have to move the quartz heater farther away because I'm too hot. One cat is laying in front of the heater, the other is laying on the other couch.
The vornado goes back to the store tomorrow. End of story.
PS. Mistakenly hit two stars instead of one, tried to change it but apparently Amazon doesn't allow for changes in the ratings/stars.
Does not heat anything September 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased this for my basement. In a 50x50 room it did not increase the temperature after several hours by even 1 degree. My clock gives me the indoor and outdoor temperature and yes I even tried moving it.
This week I had a slight water leak in my basement. I placed this heater on the maximum settings next to the water on the carpet for several hours. No change!
I also have a regular Vornado fan and it's already broken since it's made out of cheap plastic. It barely moves the air and doesn't help at all.
Vornado products are way overpriced.
Believe it or not I went and purchased a cheap metal heater for fifteen dollars and it's way better. I feel MUCH safer with it on as well.
I'm glad it works so well for many. It just doesn't for me. Save your receipt just in case!
Best of the bunch for a safe, efficient, quiet space heater December 28, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I did a ton of research and bought a few heaters before this one but I'm most happy with the Vornado. The first two I bought were digital ceramic heaters. I have to recommend against getting a digital heater. Each time you turn it on, you have to push several controls to get back to where you like it, with this heater, you just turn it on. The only thing that kept me from buying it first was cost and the fact that it had no ceramic element which theoretically was a safer element than an electric coil. We use it in a few bedrooms that are not freezing cold but uncomfortably cold. The other great feature is it'll run on lower power and only use as much wattage as is needed to heat the room. My other heaters would run full blast till it hit the desired temperature, then turn off, repeat over and over. The trouble is, heaters will use about as much power as must rooms have available so if you have anything else plugged in, you'll throw the circuit breaker, which happened over and over for me. A 1200w heater (which is common) will use over 10Amps. That's a TON of power. The Vornado will run and heat just fine on a low power setting using about 5A max and less if less is needed.
Here's a summary of what I like:
Pros: Plastic grill never gets hot to the touch - why do others use metal ? Only uses the power it needs to - gives your electric panel a rest Much easier to use than digital heaters - don't buy digital ! Compact and stable on the floor Well built - many heaters are absolute junk Cons: Expensive for a space heater No ceramic element which MAY mean it could spark easier When running on high, I noticed a buzzing noise in the fan but not during normal use

Pros: Solid construction, safe around my cats (not likely to be knocked over, and little paws are safe), heating element not visible in a dark room, high/low setting, can be used as fan, heats up my room better than my cheaper (but reliable) holms heater.
Cons: It doesn't feel anything like my car heater on max setting. Noise. On the high setting it reminds me of a locast swarm a mile away- on the low setting it's even louder. Durability: unknown.
I would give it five stars if half the price, but I don't think it's a great value for the money.
Silent and steady room temperature October 23, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I own two Vornado AVH1's and am about to buy my 3rd (for baby's room). I haven't had any problems at all so far. They work exactly as advertised. Tip: I only use the low setting since, IMO as an engineer, this should greatly increase reliability/longevity. But I live in south Texas where a small room can be kept warm on the low setting even in the middle of the winter.
