Amazon.com Review If you think electric mowers are designed for the meek, you've never tried the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog. A high-efficiency 12 amp motor provides all the power you need to tackle even the toughest lawn. Best of all, you never have to hassle with oil, gas, or spark plugs again! The mower comes fully assembled in the box. No tools, no worries--you'll be up and mowing in no time. And best of all, no pull starts! Adjusting the wheel height is quick and easy thanks to a simple one-touch system that raises and lowers all four wheels to any of eight preset heights in one operation. Whether you love yard work or consider it a chore, Black & Decker's MM875 Lawn Hog will have you looking forward to your weekly appointment with the lawn. --Carl Thress

Some good, some not so good September 5, 2008 First, the good. 1. Doesn't need gas 2. Doesn't need oil 3. I liked the wheel adjustment. Now the not so good: The deck or blade housing is designed primarily to provide cooling for the motor. There's a small fan on the bottom of the shaft that helps with the airflow but it detracts from the efficiency of grass collecting. As a result, grass collection suffers. The deck design is close to the ground in front and it pushes the grass down; the result being an uneven cutting. The mesh in the collection bag is course enough to let small clippings and dust flow through. If you wait until the grass is dry enough to cut, you will usually get a lot of dust. If you try to cut grass while it's still damp, the mower doesn't have quite enough power. The current draw on the motor, 12 amps, requires a large wire size extension cord, preferably a minimum of 14 gauge but the method of securing the cord to the mower requires a small cord. More poor engineering.
Worth every penny September 1, 2008 It has been 2 months since I bought this one. I am glad to make the right decision Before I bought this electric lawn mower, I did some homework. I found B&D electirc lawn mower is the most popular one. Based on the past experience on power tools, I chose the corded one. It took some practice to manage the extended cord when mowing around. As long as you started mowing from the point close to the outlet back and forth, you will be fine. Also the tip from one of the poster to use the non-stick spray really help before first use. Two weeks ago I noticed one of my neighboors also used the same model. Haha...
Only for short people August 30, 2008 Thsi mower has not got an adjustable handle and it is too low unless you are 5'4" tall or less. Since the shortest person who uses this mower is 5'8" tall, we are all screwed. The ad promised an adjustable handle but it is NOT adjustable. No matter how well it mows it kills your back so B&D may be in for a disability lawsuit soon for killing 3 people's backs.
Wonderful mover August 28, 2008 I bought this product back in 2004, replacing an older gas mower after my neighors house caught fire from a leaking gas can in his garage. Used the electric mower until 2007, when I treated myself to a mow/blow/go gardner. I just stuck the machine out in the side yard and never touched it. In July 2008, I pulled it out to mow a newly planted lawn not covered by my mow/go guy. Plugged it in, and it started right away, try that with a gas mower. My new house has 2300 sf of front and back lawn, this mower just gobbles up that lawn. It does bog down in taller/thicker patches, hence only 4 stars. But it gives a nice clean cut. Changing the blade was easy. And it does a nice job of mulching, my lawns look great. I will never own a gas mower!
Black & Decker Lawn Hog August 21, 2008 Much quieter than gas mower. No pollution. Less power in thick weeds, but adequate. Overall I am happy.
