3 out of 5 stars a bit disappointed   October 18, 2009

I own three other Fenix flashlights costing from $30-$70 and was very happy with the products. After reading all the 5 stars review for this flash light, I decided to get one for myself. I have to say that I am a bit disappointed considering that this flashlight cost approx $135. I am not saying this is a bad flashlight. From the construction and the feel of it, it is a very well made flashlight. I am just saying that this is not what I expected for an expensive flash light. The light was "yellowish" with a small projected area. The intensity of the light drop off quickly even at max output. In term of power, my 6 D cell magna light can outshine this flashlight any time, and it it not limit to 15 mins of beam time due to over heating. For tactical purpose, there are better and smaller and cheaper flashlights where the focus and be adjusted. If you can afford an expensive "toy" for fun in small size, this one will do. But if you are looking for value, don't border with this flashlight.

Great Flashlight my friends were amazed by it. They all wanted one for themselves. I us mine for night walks on dark trail in the woods, oh and when I get a group together for Man hunt... Ohhh the strobe light, they didn't no what to do but to stop running or they'll fall down or trip. Overall a great light for anything.

5 out of 5 stars New to Fenix   September 11, 2009

I thought I lost my flashlight(aurora 1.5w LED 2xAA 42lumens.) so I decided to see what was new in the LED flashlight world(found aurora later on heh). I didn't know that a lot of LED flashlights run on CR123A and didn't want to buy one that uses it. I was really looking for maybe a D or C cell flashlight, amazed that this thing uses 8xAA. AA batteries are not bad though, AA's are pretty much everywhere. I will never use alkaline batteries in the TK40 because I am afraid the alkaline batteries would leak and that would be the suck. NiMH has a thicker case, so has lower chance of leakage, plus why would anyone use alkaline batteries anyway. I tried to get some Eneloop from Walmart but they didn't have it, I currently using Duracell NiMH with a Ansmann Energy 16 Charger. Each of my AA cell is 2650mAh x 8 = 21200mAh using 2 D-cell batteries with 10000mAh would have been easier then 8xAA batteries.

What I don't like about this flashlight is that turbo mode is limited to 15mins(according to manual) because of overheating(but it probably be ok if it really cold). I like the heat sink on it and heat is what is limiting LED flashlight. Maybe the next generation of LED flash light will be liquid cooled. This is a good flashlight for the money. The Fenix is rising!

5 out of 5 stars My third Fenix and I love it.   August 9, 2009

Got this for my birthday. I love Fenix lights. Its just big enough that it is not convenient to carry around all day long like my other two lights, but I knew that going in. I don't know what else to say that had not already been mentioned. I know this is petty but I feel a light this size should have the button on the side of the body up by the lamp. Pressing the button on the back with a light this big means the hold is just a little awkward to me. There is nothing wrong with this light to warrant less than 5 stars though. The shoulder strap is not really something I want to use and it is a little too big for a belt clip but I put the included loop lanyard thing on the end of the light and put a carabiner on there anyways.
