I work in a small room in my basement, and put off putting anything like this in there to save space. That was a mistake, as this is the single best thing in the room. Spent two hours yesterday with the power sander on the whole time, and never had to wear goggles or a mask; it wasn't unpleasant to be in the shop at any point. My lungs thank me already.
4 stars instead of 5 because it doesn't look like I can order replacement filters on Amazon. Odd.

I have been doing some interior sanding work and even with a plastic dust barrier was getting dust into rest of the house. Put in the jet where I was getting the most dust. Did a great job on the fine sanding dust and made cleanup a matter of a little vacuuming. I let the AFS run and noticed that my allergies were much better. Ran it the next day and again my allergies improved although I did no work on the house. Substitute for a HEPA--probably not but it definitely helps my allergies. Nice bonus to an excellent air filtration system.

The first unit that arrived had a loose electrical connection to the internal remote control sensor. I called Amazon.com support and another unit was delivered in about 5 days. That one worked perfectly and the return of the defective unit was easy. Once I had the second unit, it was very easy to set up and (in my application) hang the new unifrom the ceiling.
The remote control is great and the timer and speed selection is just what is needed. The filtration from this unit in my workshop eliminates nearly all of the free floating dust that comes off of table saw, jointer, surfacing planer that do not have direct hookup to a my shopvac.
The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars was because the first unit didn't work correctly. Make sure you test it out before hanging it from a ceiling!

I purchased the AFS-400 on 2/27/2009 and have used it for remodeling projects around the house. I have a bigger Jet unit in my shop that has worked flawlessly for 2+ years.
I put the AFS-400 into the basement after some drywall work last month. I just was working on a different room last night cutting some wood in the house and pulled out the unit, plugged it in and Nothing. I checked the obvious things and it appears to have stopped working.
I called Jet's customer service. They had a simple phone tree I spoke to one person who transferred me to a technician in less than 30 seconds and that person took my information and has promised t ship a replacement circuit board out right away. I was on the phone less than 5 minutes and only had to give them my shipping info and the serial number of the unit. I was also very happy to not have to ship the entire unit back to them. The unit seems very simple, so I'm sure it will be easy enough to swap the board.
Very impressive customer service!!!
I'll update this review after getting my part in and replacing it.
7/22/2009 - Update
I received the replacement board today and it was not difficult to install. There were no instructions, but it wasn't hard to figure out. The new board fixed the problem. Great Customer Service Confirmed!!!

The product performs very well. I sand a lot and this system clears the air in my garaqe shop very quickly.
The only improvement I would recommend is a washable outside filter.
Because it works so well the outside filter gets dirty rather quickly. I have vaccumed the filter a couple of times, but the filter is not very sturdy and the replacement cost of this filter is rather high. I ordered a custom filter from Air Tech and am waiting for its arrival.
