A Complete Workshop in One Versatile Tool
Whether you're a professional woodworker or an avid do-it-yourselfer, the RK5100K is an effective way to streamline your work. Easily carried in its compact, lightweight bag, the kit can be kept at your fingertips for all your remodeling, installation, and repair projects.

Starting with the basics, the 20-piece multipurpose kit comes with a Sonicrafter tool and includes two cutting blades, a sanding pad, and 15 sanding sheets that help you to make plunge cuts, flush cutting door jams, and sand, with professional-grade results. It also includes a hex key.

The kit's versatile capabilities come in handy when performing multi-duty tasks, such as exposing hardwood flooring. First, the universal end-cut blade easily cuts through thick linoleum. Then, the sanding system takes over, helping you efficiently polish those hard-to-reach spaces.

High-Frequency Oscillation for Smooth, Safe Precision
For the safest and most accurate work, the RK5100K features super high-frequency oscillation technology. This means that instead of rotating, it makes 20,000 back-and-forth oscillations per minute for ultra smooth, efficient results. Because there are no fast-spinning parts or alternating blades, there are no threats of kickback.

Thanks to its advanced design, the RK5100K cuts only hard materials when fitted with a blade attachment. This way, the tool easily cuts heavy-duty materials, while keeping the user's hands and fingers safe.

The RK5100K can cut wood, thin metals, fiberglass, masonry, plastic, carpet, flooring, cement board, and even vinyl siding.

High Sanding Capacity with Low Dust Levels
For sanding jobs, this tool requires very little downward pressure and delivers great accuracy. And its slim body enhances your sanding capabilities, allowing you to work on edging and corners that are often not possible to reach with other tools. Plus, it affords you quick and easy clean-up, throwing a very low level of dust whether you're sanding, cutting, or scraping.

Easy Handling with Lightweight Frame and Soft Grip
The RK5100K has magnesium alloy gear housing, making it lightweight enough for extended use and rugged enough for long-term durability. The soft, ergonomic grip offers you optimum comfort and control while you tackle the job at hand.

What's in the Box
Rockwell RK5100K Sonicrafter tool, 2 cutting blades, 1 sanding pad, 1 hex key, 15 sanding sheets and a convenient carry bag.

Ideal for use with a wide range of materials, this all-in-one tool makes sanding, cutting, and scraping simple tasks.

3 out of 5 stars Poor Customer Service, mediocre long-term quality   October 31, 2009
Stormrider (Seattle WA)

I wish I had, had the opportunity to actually use one of these that had seen extended service before I actually bought one.

For the first few months the Sonicrafter worked OK. Then the mediocre workmanship started to show up. I sent numerous emails, and made several phone calls to Rockwell. They never answered or returned any of them. In desperation I called the sales number on the infomercial. The sales rep took all my information and said I would get a call the next day. Needless to say I did not.

In brief my problems have been as follows:

1. The Allen Screw that secures the blades now vibrates loose, as a consequence I had to stop to re-tighten the blades every few minutes.
2. The front end gets VERY hot. I mean hot enough you can't hold it! It will deform thin plastic sheeting such as the vapor barrier on wall insulation.
3. The blades are very poorly made. They dulled quickly. I don't know what kind of blades they use for the demonstration videos, but it certainly is not the same as what they sent me. Certainly the nails they show the unit cutting must all be cheap non-ferrous metals.
4. The owners manual that came with the unit must have been written by someone for whom English is a second language.

Supposedly there is a two year warranty on the product. Good luck getting Rockwell to honor that. They essentially have no customer support to whom you can talk to get a RMA number or arrange a replacement.

As a result, my unit is now an expensive paperweight. It does have one useful purpose. I show it to my friends and associates to let them use it if they are thinking of buying one. After using it no one I know wants anything to do with this product.

I ended up buying a Fein Multimaster. More expensive? Certainly. But I only had to buy it once, and it works as advertised. You do in fact get what you pay for.

In summary. Initially the Sonicrafter worked as advertised, but it did not hold up to long term use over a 3 month period. My personal feeling is that the high heat generated by this tool coupled with the high frequency oscillations were more than the cheap materials used in building it could stand when used over time. This may work for a hobbyist making wooden models. but for serious work, it just did not stand up. Customer service was oriented at making sure the customer has no way to actually exercise his right to use the Warrenty.

4 out of 5 stars Happy with my purchase   August 5, 2009

I've only used it for the past week. I also bought the aggressive saw blades which were worth it for cutting some door jambs (not sure if the universal blade that came with it would have really cut through as quick or as well). The doorjambs went quick and that alone made the buy worth it.

I have also sanded with it for 4-8 minutes or so at a time. The handle seems to be very well insulated, but the front part where the blade is attached gets very hot and stays hot. The directions say to have it run for 1-2 minutes just to get some air through, but it didn't seem to cool it down all that much. It worried me that it got so hot, but it was doing some good cutting and sanding; seemed to continue to do a fine job. I just didn't force anything and movd it back and forth and it did the rest.

Switching attachments is done with an allen wrench which is slower, but it does come with the allen wrench and a place to store it on the tool. I tighten the blade down really hard every time just to make sure nothing goes flying off. You'll probably notice an odd vibrating sound if it comes loose.

The one I received (which is the one I am commenting on) was NOT variable speed which was expected. The carrying case is nifty and a plus. We will see how well it will cut through a some harder wood later.

Also I don't believe I've cut through any nails so I can't comment on that as of yet.

I got this one because the fein multimaster seemed quite expensive, which would have been fine, but the blades were all like [...]a piece and hearing how fast the blades went, seemed like it was vastly overpriced. Just make sure you have all the attachments you'll need otherwise you'll be waiting on getting them shipped to you.

4 out of 5 stars Rockwell Sonicrafter   June 23, 2009

This tool has been great for sanding areas that are tricky to reach with a larger orbital sander. The sanding pads are easily switched and there is a nice assortment of grades of sandpaper included with the tool. My only concern with the tool is its tendency to heat up rather quickly during the sanding process. I don't know if I should be concerned about it, but I stop sanding frequently to let the sonicrafter cool off.

5 out of 5 stars A must for putting in wood floors   June 19, 2009

I can't say enough about this tool. I'm putting in wood floors and every time I mis-hit the nailer, I'm thankful that I have this tool. You simply cannot pull out a flooring nail without ruining the wood. With the sonicrafter, no problem. Cuts right through. Is it fabulous for cutting the Brazilian Cherry?(Much harder than oak) Not really, but it will and is just fine for small jobs. It's great for cutting the bottom molding around doors and was indispensable in cutting the vinyl flooring that ran under our cabinets. If I had to do it all over, I would have probably gotten the next level up to include more blades, but I am more than happy with my purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Sonicrafter at Menards!   June 1, 2009

I just saw the Sonicrafter basic kit at Menards for the same price as Amazon, $119.00 but you'd have to pay tax, so Amazon is still cheaper. Don't yet know if they have spare blades, and what selection if they do, but this makes the Sonicrafter competitive with Fein and Dremel since the blades no longer have to be ordered online. It's about time!
