Total waste of money November 16, 2009 William N. Harris III (Providence, RI) We recently bought a new home and wanted to replace some of the toilet seats in the house. I tried this Kohler seat for our master bath, along with Mayfair's molded wood seat for the guest bath. The Kohler seat cost about 50% more, so I figured Kohler's name and quality typically associated with their products would have been worth it right?.......wrong
The Kohler seat felt flimsy and was very shifty when sitting on it. I attribute all of this to their "Quick-Release" system, which is just poorly designed compared to Mayfair.
The Kohler seat's "quiet close" hinges are not actually 1-piece/integrated into the seat like the Mayfair. I actually had to repair/reinstall the seats hinge mechanism twice within two month's of use. When the seat's hinges failed the third time......it got replaced permanently with another Mayfair, and the Kohler went straight into the trash.
Maybe I got a "lemon", but the Mayfair seems to be hands down a better seat in every way. It is more comfortable, sturdy and the quick release systems is easier/simpler to use.
I never thought I would spend the time to write a review on a toilet seat, but it was so bad, I felt inspired. I would have thought about a return, but it is a used toilet seat.....enough said.
A nice upgrade October 1, 2009 Carlgo (Carmel Valley, CA) Clean, quality plastic, gleaming new and shiny, closing quietly by itself or quickly with a push. It is so nice. Comfortable enough, not being soft or anything? Yes, I played 18 holes of iPhone golf (8 under) without getting up. Now that is comfort.
The bathroom looks...newer. You don't realize how awful the old seat is until you replace it. It seems that the seat will look new and clean for a very long time.
The style, which is very pleasing and modern, fits right in even with an older model toilet. It attaches easily and detaches quickly for cleaning. The old unit was disgusting in that way.
I promise that there will be no video review.
toilet seat August 18, 2009 the yardlady Product seemed well made. It did not come with instructions and therefore did not fit as a replacement easily. It would be better if the product came with information as to which Kohler toilets is would fit or, reverse, one was able to find which replacement seat one could use for a specific toilet. Very distressing to see a company like Kohler which we all respect to leave you stranded like this ezpecially when the seat that originally came with the toilet had an extremely weak, tho' crucial, plastic part which gave out within 3 years of intemittent use in a powder room.
Transformative Toilet Seat Epiphany July 23, 2009 Edward R. Voytovich (Syracuse, NY USA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Little did I suspect that purchasing this toilet seat would not only allow me to close the cover silently and make my commode easier to maintain in pristine cleanliness, but that it would also transform my perceptions of the universe, enable me to understand string theory, and launch me into what Kurt Vonnegut so accurately described as a "chronosynclastic infundibulum."
Yes, dear reader, as I settled myself on the brand new KOHLER K-4636-0 Cachet Quiet-Close Elongated Toilet Seat and began to get down to business, the wall across from me and above the tub shimmered and spontaneously transformed itself into a life size performance by none other than the famous Rockettes of Radio City Music Hall! It was not until their second number that I realized that my trousers were not properly pulled up and that I was in a public posture of digestive fructification rarely seen outside of Marine Corps latrines (pardon me, heads). Yet this was only the beginning.
As I watched in awe, unwilling to break the spell and close once again the doors of perception, the Rockettes commenced to grow in size and resolution! As they became larger and larger I perceived greater and greater detail: the warp and woof of their nylon stockings like massive fishing nets, beads of perspiration as big as hot air balloons, hair follicles the size of the Aral Sea, skin cells like the Great Salt Lake, bacteria as large as whales, cell nuclei like giant squids, bacterial strands of DNA like intertwined spiral staircases in a light house as tall as the moon, amino acids, molecules, atoms, quarks, Higgs Bosons!
And then the finale: enthroned upon my Kohler saddle I saw with perfect clarity the tiny, vibrating, string-like yet ineluctably mysterious bits of energy that are the fundamental building blocks of the universe: I became one with the Strings of String Theory.
The sense of wonder I experienced transformed my quotidian inner spirit from the pathetic slice of day old Wonder Bread it had always been to the unimaginably thrilling essence of a transcendent, divine figure in the form of Dionysus, hanging ten as I surfed the fabulous breakers of the chronosynclastic infundibulim.
I understood with brilliant clarity that I was somewhere, everywhere, and nowhere at the same time, yet this realization was as comfortable to me as curling up on a chilly night under a down comforter and looking forward to a good night of sleep and pleasant dreams.
Never in all my life and experience has any other elongated bowl toilet seat provided anything equal to the epiphany that accompanied my KOHLER K-4636-0 like the prizes of old in a box of Cracker Jack.
I plan to order a second one for the half bath. Five stars.
Great, but doesnt last forever July 6, 2009 jo (MA) This is a great, quiet toilet seat, however after about 2 years of owning it, one hinge of the seat is broken. It is still being used but the seat slides now. The other side will break in a matter of time. I think because it can come off for cleaning that the hinges aren't as sturdy as a seat that does not come off. I would love to know if anyone else's seat lasted longer than 2 years.
