Good Buy March 12, 2010 TP Reitzel At $50, this portable washer does a good job of washing small loads of clothes. Basically, the Wonder Washer, WW02, is a motorized bucket.
I've only had the Wonder Washer for about a week so I'll return to this review if it fails prematurely, i.e. less than a year. Even if the Wonder Washer only lasts a year, it'll pay for itself.
I've also purchased a portable spin dryer that runs on 115v so the two should make good companions for a total price of $150.
Before placing clothes into the WW to be washed, ensure that you fill the bucket no higher than .5" below the 10L mark. The clothes will absorb water and help keep the water level below the 10L mark. Before placing clothes into the WW to be rinsed (clothes already wet), ensure that you fill the bucket no higher than .75" below the 10L mark. If a user follows these suggestions, the spillage will be minimal or nonexistent. One of my suggestions for improvement would be adding a rubber seal around the lid as the lid tends to unlock from the vibration.
Add detergent before placing the clothes in the WW and let them soak for a few minutes. Add fabric softener as necessary to the rinse cycle. Personally, I use only the gentle cycle for all clothes as it seems to emulate more closely the agitation of a normal washing machine. The gentle cycle spins for ~4+ seconds, then stops for ~3+ seconds, then reverses direction for ~4+ seconds, etc. Due to centrifugal forces, the water continues to move for at least 1 additional second after the motor stops. At most, the water is stagnant for ~1 second. The gentle cycle could be improved by running the motor for ~3 seconds followed by a ~1.5 second rest before reversing direction. Centrifugal forces would force movement of the water almost continuously with such as short cycle. The WW does a good job and I haven't seen any real destructive effects on my clothes yet, but I've only had the machine for a short period.
To those people who insist that using a stick would be just as effective as the WW, I say nonsense.
Do not buy it! March 7, 2010 Elizabeth (NY) I will never recommend to buy this product. I was looking for a portable washer. I hoped this would work. But it did not. The shape of the handles is terrible. It was not possible to grab and move the timer . I could not do it. Finally I got angry and put this washer in the garbich. Sorry, but this is a true.
Now my girlfriend laughs at me because I WonderWash my clothes instead of using the big laundry machines February 17, 2010 J. Ly 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just moved into my first apartment for the first time.
Decided to try and "economize" by buying the Wonder Washer, it's only okay...
:( It's a bit embarrassing when the guests find that the clothes are drying in the restroom with a fan and the drying rack.
when I dry it outside, it just gets stiff and not nice to wear
now in a household of 3 roomies, I am the only one doing heaps of laundry with the Wonder Washer
^^currently waiting for the machine to finish rinse cycle^^
Will tear your clothes apart January 24, 2010 Mark Wieczorek (Brooklyn, NY United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this a few years ago & threw it out just a couple of months after buying it. It worked as promised & I really thought I'd save on trips to the laundry room and money, but after a while I noticed that it's really tough on clothes.
The mechanism works by spinning an agitator left & then right. The "gentle" cycle spins it for a briefer period of time in each direction, but with no less force.
This constant forceful twisting back & forth twists your clothes up in knots. Sleeves get tangled up, any loose threads get pulled off & twisted around your garment. Even putting things in a delicates bag didn't help - the delicates bag got twisted up along with the clothes inside it.
I wouldn't recommend this for anyone - my clothes came out far too damaged in this thing - any money savings that I may get from not visiting the laundry room would be canceled out from constantly having to buy clothes again.
I really wanted to like this item, but it's just not usable.
Thumbs down..... January 11, 2010 Wynona (Arizona, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Will not bother to repeat most of the negative comments about this product, but in my opinion it is a complete waste of $$$. While I honestly cannot find anything that I do like about it, for me its worst feature is the lack of any type of real agitation. Yes, it spins clockwise for 5-10 seconds and then counter-clockwise for 5-10 seconds - and I suppose that technically qualifies as agitation...but not as far as I'm concerned. Such motion merely creates a "whirlpool effect" and produces little to no resistance so that garments can actually get clean. I agree with the review that states that you can do a better job with a bucket and a stick! Had I purchased this product locally it would have already been returned, but with return shipping costs/etc, am not sure it is worth the trouble & expense. I am very surprised that this product has received so many good reviews. In my opinion this product's performance is unsatisfactory. I would not purchase it again nor recommend that anyone else do so.
