Excellent Product Overall November 16, 2009 D. Ambrose (Tempe, AZ) I have very hard water from the tap and refuse to drink it. It tastes horrible, and chlorine smell is overwhelming. I've been purchasing bottled water at the grocery store, but was hoping a water filtration pitcher would be a suitable alternative to save money. After researching both PUR and Brita water filtration products, I purchased the PUR water dispenser. I've had it nearly two months now, and overall, I am very happy with it. It is easy to set up and very easy to use. The spout has never leaked. Because the humans and pets in our home drink so much water (the dogs' water bowl takes a gallon to fill!), we keep our dispenser on the counter to make it convenient to refill, and keep a pitcher of filtered water in the fridge for chilled water. As for the taste, the filtered water is still not as good as bottled, but I have gotten used to it, and tastes best when chilled. As with any brand water filtration product, I question how clean the water really is, and am mostly concerned about chlorine content, but the PUR dispenser seems to deliver all that it promises.
PUR DS-1800Z - 2 STAGE FILTER WATER DISPENSER November 11, 2009 KEN TELLS ALL (NYC) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After 2 years of use this is my review - This is a great product. I never liked drinking tap water because of a slight after taste. I live in Manhattan, NY and we are supposed to have some of the best tasting water in the country. I would confirm this to be true because I have been to other cities in this country and it does have less of an after taste. Pure water is supposed to be tasteless! This product comes as close to this as far as I can taste. Bottled water usually picks up a taste from the plastic container it is stored in. The bottles are cheap and made of substances which, when exposed to heat, has a negative chemical affect on the health quality of the water. This product is NSF approved. This means that the plastic the container is made of does not have substances that react with water. This product has turned my whole family into water drinkers. We stopped drinking soda and artificial fruit drinks and drink only water filtered by this device from PUR !!!
The design is slim and tall so that it does not take up a lot of room in your side by side refrigerator. It is expensive to run but worth it. Each filter is supposed to purify about 40 gallons of water. You can tell when the filter needs to be replaced when it takes more than 2 hours for the water in the top tank to empty into the lower tank or you notice a taste difference in the water. How long your filter lasts depends on just how dirty your water is. Water with more particles will cause the filter to clog faster. My NYC tap water allows from 35 to 40 refills of the top tank before it needs replacement. This product saves money and is ecology friendly to the environment. This is a good product and well worth the money.
Better tasting water November 7, 2009 Charles Balchunas (Port St Lucie, Florida) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This item does provide better tasting/smelling water but when I measured the filtered water for total dissolved solids (TDS) with an accurate meter it was still very high compared to my tap water. Also, I found that the first full batch immediately after putting in a new filter has a chemical aftertaste even when you follow the preparation instructions to the letter. Solution, run at least one fill dispenser through it and throw that water away.

Works great, easy to fill, easy to carry. I would recommend filling it before it runs empty so you don't have to wait for it to filter.
