Why pay more? (Don't pay less!) March 13, 2010 B. Borgerson (Ashland, OR United States) For years I struggled with the cheaper "electrode type" warm mist humidifiers, and got more frustration than steam. But I didn't want to pay $100 for a humidifier. This is the perfect happy medium. Yes, the "2 1/2 gallons" is a bait-and-switch, but the unit will easily humidify a small room on low for nearly full day, and a larger room on high with a refilling or, at most, two. It's reliable, it's easy to clean, and the price is right. What more could you ask?
Gets a Good Review for Price and Working Well, BUT it's NOT 2 1/2 Gallons February 24, 2010 Citizen John (Washington, DC) This is as big as the unit I sought to replace for my office. I think the entire product that you see in the picture might displace 2 and 1/2 gallons, but there's no way the receptable can hold even one gallon.
Now I run the two identical units (except they have different names) right next to each other. They work better to kick out an exceptable rate of humidity together. So what at first looked like a cheap solution, a shortcut, turned out to be a long cut. I now have these two small humidifiers running together and the result now is good.
If I had to start over, I'd spend about 160 and get a big machine with a large receptable that could direct a visible spray of mist to humidify my office nicely. But these two do fine for me for now. I can't compain because still the price was so good.
I admit I like them because they're quiet.
Two lemons in a row February 22, 2010 fofoqueira 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I first bought this humidifier directly from Amazon in December, but it refused to function. The power light came on but the heating element never warmed up (I left it on overnight to be certain). Fortunately Amazon's return service is flawless.
I decided to give it one more try, and just received the replacement unit (again, I ordered directly from Amazon). The fill cap was missing from the water tank.
No more chances from me! :(
Perfect for my needs February 18, 2010 G. Guilliat (Cedar Ridge, CA USA) When you keep this humidifier on low you will still need to fill it about ever 12 hours. I don't find this to be a problem. It puts enough moisture in the air for a 1000 sq. ft. area that there is no static electricity. That was my goal. You can add scented oil in the small reservoir to add a nice fragrance to the house. Then you can always add vicks if you have a cold and set it next to your bed with a warm mist.
This humidifier is very easy to fill. I would definitely recommend this humidifier to friends.
Not perfect February 18, 2010 Joe Z (Behind The Curve in Rock Hill) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had two of these. It works well day in day out year after year. It's not perfect, however.
First to address some posted complaints. Daily water output is a perfectly valid way to rate a humidifier. That's how it's done. Get over it.
As for frequent refilling, it's in the bedroom and I fill it at night. There's plenty left in the tank in the morning. Running it 24/7 on HIGH uses two tanks full. The tank may seem small, but it's perfectly adequate. Besides, would you want to lug around a 2 gallon tank? Don't think so.
Problems with reliability may be due to the retailer dropping it, not a manufacturing defect. Mine both lasted years. The one I have now is three years old.
But it's not perfect. It makes a gurgling sound if the reservoir isn't cleaned. Scale builds up on the element and settles in the bowl. When it gurgles, it needs to be cleaned. You won't be able to get it perfectly clean, but you don't need to, so don't sweat it. Just get the particulate matter out.
The scale buildup on the element can't be cleaned. There are cheap, third-party filters available. Haven't tried them. Might help. The problem is, scale buildup makes the element less efficient. Which leads to problem #3 - operating cost.
I can't prove it because my electric bill varies a lot, but I think it adds $10-$20 a month. As the elements junks up, I think it gets worse. Think of it like leaving a stove burner on 24/7. Has to cost something.
Bottom line is that it works, is reliable, it's easy to clean - 5 stars.
