Amazon.com Review This tool makes humans as close to foolproof as we can get, at least when it comes to measuring, cutting and installing trim without a flaw. We love that it's a solid piece, with nothing adjustable on it, so you know its 45- and 90-degree angles are always true. It takes the gymnastics out of measuring, too, whether screwed to your workbench or temporarily tacked to the working wall with 6d finish nails, because of the built-in tape measure hooks. Even tricky inside-to-inside miters are a snap. Perfect 3/16-inch reveals on windows and door jambs are guaranteed every time: Just line it up and draw your guide with the pencil holes. Though it's marketed for casements, we'd keep it in the toolbox for all kinds of jobs. Imagine installing baseboard up to door trim and lining up the Trim Loc for a perfect cutline every time. We think it'd be the perfect gauge for squaring saw blades, too. This little tool will save you time, money and lots of frustration.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

trim-loc casement tool November 16, 2009 E. Ken Alvarez (az) I wanted the metal one ,hope this doesn't break when I throw it in my tool box,if It does won't buy another one
Great Timesaver, and really helps if you are working alone. October 31, 2009 Alfred Miller (Florida) Well worth the money, especially if you are working alone. This unit did come in an aluminum and plastic version. Both are good. Following the directions will show you how to install various trim -- see complete instructions at [...]
Bench Dog makes quality products.
Write your name on it when you get it, I have lost two lending it out.
works for me June 12, 2009 Robert Nieland (usa) Nicely made product, I'm sure it will last for a long time. Works just like its supposed to. Easy to measure the length of miters, mark out 45 degree angels, and of course helps keep a nice even reveal. Best for non-professionals I think, those who can use a little help doing trim work.
Trim-Loc "Money well spent" April 27, 2009 Dustywy (Wyoming) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased a Trim-Loc from a local home improvement store and instantly realized that this was money well spent. My Father -in -law and I were remodeling my family-room and it has 4 doorways in it. That meant casement on both sides of the doorways. After spending an inordinate amount of time on the first one, I ran out and bought a Trim-Loc at the recommendation of a salesperson at (Lowes). After the obligatory learning curve, we found that the Trim-Loc made measuring, cutting and placement of the casement trim extremely fast and easy. Mis-cuts were non-existent and when working with high dollar Oak millwork, mistakes can be expensive. The tool worked so well that my Father-in-law wanted one of his own as well as my brother-in-law who is a contractor. I bought two. They were each about $6.00 cheaper than at your local home improvement store
I also want to mention that I purchased Bench Dog's Crown-Cut crown molding jig. If you have ever cut crown molding on a miter saw you know that its orientation is paramount. The Crown Cut has simple instructions that again make mistakes almost foolproof. It is pricey but again money well spent.
PS. "And they are made in the USA.
Trouble holding tape measure March 26, 2009 DB (Springfield, MA USA) Am I missing something? I have the toughest time keeping the end of a tape meaure in the slots provided on this tool. The problem is that the raised part of this tool, which rests against the door jamb/window frame to mark the reveal, prevents the end of the tape measure to hook into the measuring slot because the tape is resting on top of this raised part so it can't slide securely into the slot.
The tape measure tab end keeps popping out of the slot. The slots are also not long enough to fully seat the tab end of a standard tape measure. I really like the idea of this tool, but find it difficult at best to use because of this problem. Any comments to successfully utilize this tool are appreciated
