Best on th eMarket September 24, 2009 M. D. Harris (central Illinois) I bought this screw gun to replace my first one- a Milwaukee that I bought in 1989. It is just as good, and even better the ergonomics are better than my old one.
it does the job May 13, 2009 M. Guides (Croydon, PA) I bought this screwdriver after I returned the Dewalt I was using previously. The Dewalt started to make gear grinding after the first bit change (the magnet shaft came out with the bit) so I looked around and bought the Milwaukee. This gun feels better and lighter then the Dewalt did but the only issue I had was the bit that came with it. It took me 2 or 3 bit changes to find the one that didn't get stuck on the screw head after driving a box of coated screws. The depth setting works great I screwed 10 sheets of plywood down and never had to reset the depth setting.
Another quality tool from milwaukee February 18, 2009 Ironsands Dragon (Bedford, PA USA) Although I hate corded tools I must say this tool is light weight and powerful. Sets screws the same depth no matter if it is run slow or fast. The adjustment is easy to set. If there is a down side to the tool it would be the factory bit that comes with it but as with most tools, the accessories supplied usually are not the best. I would recommend using APEX bits made by Cooper Tools as I have best luck with them (avg 30,000 screws with 1/4" impact driver before wear is showing with their X suffix bits ie. 446-2X). I would recommend this Milwaukee 6740-20 6.5 Amp Screwdriver to any DIYer and/or weekend contractor.
Satisfied October 3, 2007 P. Foster (Mobile, AL) My wife bought this screw gun for me upon my request. The first project we used it for was to build a 250 sq. ft. deck on the back of our house. We were installing 1X6 treated deck boards into treated 2X6's. It had plenty of power and never hesitated. It also has a very sensitive trigger so you can ease one in when you have to. The plastic depth set was extremely useful and durable. My brother was helping us and he was using a Bosch cordless impact driver. That worked pretty well but the Milwaukee screw gun got the screws in much quicker and quieter!
This is my first Milwaukee tool and I am very satisfied with it!
This is the one you want September 1, 2006 J. M. Austin (Buffalo, NY USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is my third drywall gun, the most recent being the Dewalt DW257R. I don't do much drywall work, but the Dewalt literally fell apart after about 3 years. During that time, a philips bit in my regular electric drill worked just as well as the Dewalt! The Milwaukee 6740-20 is what a drywall gun should be. It's performance has been flawless, it's well balanced, and comfortable to use. I am surprised that a drywall gun that is this "heavy-duty" is also this lightweight and easy to use. I was so thrilled with this machine, that I replaced my hammer drill with the Milwaukee 5387-22 which I am even more thrilled with. The two have made me a Milwaukee man from now on!
Suggestion: Buy the 48-55-0711 Steel Carrying Case to keep it in.
