Amazon.com Product Description The Fiskars super splitting axe splits large and thick blocks of wood with ease. The high-quality carbon steel blade has a PTFE coating, which reduces friction and helps facilitate the removal of the blade from wood. The 4-1/2-pound axe is smartly designed and easy to use. The 28-inch handle consists of a sturdy glass fiber-reinforced polyamide and is molded around the head to prevent loosening and separation. This ax is much lighter than ones with wooden handles and less likely to break at the neck. You can use the face of the ax as a sledge with Fiskars's splitting wedge for large blocks of wood. The ax comes complete with a plastic sheath for carrying and safe storage and includes a lifetime warranty.

terrific maul November 6, 2009 bob lich (western pa.) i have had it for a few weeks and it works great, don't understand all the short handle comments, i am average hieght and weight and it does fine, am fifty seven years old
Good but not great November 2, 2009 Woody (New Hampshire) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This won't ever replace an 8lb maul for bigger stuff, but it works for medium to small. Somebody said it would split wet oak with no problem, I say not a chance. Just not enough weight behind it. I'm definitely keeping it because once the 8lb has split up the big logs this one will finish the pieces with less than half the weight.
Fiskars Splittting Axe October 25, 2009 Timothy J. Johnson (MA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This axe works well, however it does not take the place of a maul and wedge.
I wish the handle were a couple inches longer. It is just about indestructable and will probably outlast me.
Great axe..so far October 24, 2009 J. W. Norris Not being a lumberjack or anything, I must say that I'm very impressed with this splitter. I've split up to 24" rounds of red oak. Before the Fiskars, my friend and I got his maul stuck numerous times and needed a wedge and sledge hammer to split it. I've yet to get my Fiskars stuck...not once. It's very sharp, light enough to use for a long time, and haven't noticed any problems with the length. I'm hoping it gives me years of good service.
fiskards 28 ax October 15, 2009 Elizabeth P. White (CANADA) On sat my Hydo Log Splitter broke/ Monday evening I was looking for a new splitter then came across the reviews about the"Fiskars 7854" After reading all the reviews + watching the guy using it on youtube was very impressive " So order 2 of the 28" Fiskars ": Well it arrived today and was impressed "This tool has a fantastic breaking ability We made shingles out of 24" oak 12"elm .walnut and maple had no problem : After the first 2 breaks " "My son didn't put it down in 30 mins had a third of a cord ..
Only Issue's "knots take a way tad more to break..
We have a home in a 14 acs woods " last june had eleven 100 yr old 90+++ ft white Beech trees within 3 mins fall due storm/gust
Forget White BEECH /"My son is 5ft 11" 178 lbs . He wasn't able to split 5 different size beech logs 11" to 25" ax would just bounces off with each hit only leaving a 1/8 inch thick ax mark behind "It just way to hard<"But able to split the 4-6" beech with full force wuie blows "but anything thicker will wear you out fast.> and cause sweating? I also order the sharper that didn't arrive as yet? ax didn't have a very sharp edge when it arrived ,perhaps giving it a razor edge would split this beech:
this ax is a keeper! " one of these is faster"except beech then a Non Commercial Hydro splitter !
sleep safe tonight/
