It's OK September 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this reel mower so that I could mow the grass without making a lot of noise or using any gasoline. Well, I did make less noise and used no gasoline. But, it certainly was a lot more work. If you buy this, make sure that your yard is smaller than mine. Also you will find that you will need to cut the lawn more often, this mower does not do well on taller grass. Also, I will have to buy the grass catcher so that I will not have to rake. But, I am glad I bought it. I will get more exercise and I think that this is the better reel mower for the money. So, if you don't mind the extra work. It is a good buy.
Easy to use, Lightweight and Enviro Friendly! July 16, 2008 I was looking for an environmentally friendly solution to replace my current gas mower and gave Gardena a shot. Boy was I satisfied. The push mower was easy to assemble, super lightweight and folds up nicely to fit in compact storage.
When using it to cut the lawn, I hardly use any effort at all. You'll probably want to set it at the 22 to 25 setting unless you want to cut the grass super short.
I highly recommend the Gardena push mower and believe that everyone should get one to do their part in saving the environment. Its easy to use, cuts great and you definitely won't regret it. No more messes with gasoline and oil; I actually look forward to cutting the grass each week now :)
Great little gas saver June 5, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I think this little mower is great. I have a small yard and one steep slope and it does great. I let my lawn get too long the first time I used it, but now I keep up with the grass and its fairly effortless. It can handle small sticks. Its nice to just grab it and go. No filling up the tank, changing the oil or spark plugs. Its very light weight. I hand it on a couple of hooks in my garden shed. Of course its not like a power mower, but if you have a small yard without a lot of ruts then it will do just fine!
lightweight, cuts well May 25, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a great reel mower - lightweight, unique color, easy set-up, low maintenance, and cuts well.
There are, of course, a few limitations, which in my opinion are worth the exchange of knowing you're doing a good deed for the environment and yourself. The maximum cutting height is 42mm, which is really pretty darn low. If you try to mow grass that's moderately tall, it will cut it, but since a reel mower cuts like scissors, rather than mulching the grass, you'll be left with a lot of grass on your lawn (solved by buying the grass catcher). I have mowed over tall dandelions with this, and was surprised that it usually (though not always) cuts them.
As for ease of mowing, this thing is really easy to push on an average lawn on flat ground. Cutting a very lush thick lawn requires a bit more effort, but still less than or equivalent to a gas push mower.
Though I've never used a Brill, I researched them and finally decided to save a few dollars on the Gardena and am thrilled with the quality.
One final suggestion to potential buyers, if you don't mow your lawn like clockwork and tend to have weeds, I'd suggest keeping another type of mower as a backup incase it gets too long to cut with the Gardena.

I was using an old American and found the Gardena a much better experience. It is light, easy to maneuver and very pretty. I do wish it would cut higher, 3", and that the width of the blades were greater. My lawn is 10,00 feet and it is a workout. I definitely prefer it to a gas mower and it is a great improvement over the American.
