The bag took less than a week to arrive, in fact it shipped the day I ordered it. It was delivered yesterday and last night I filled it with water using a funnel and a one gallon pitcher. It took between 20 and 30 gallons to fill, I didn't count. This took perhaps half an hour.
It is more akin to a speed bag than a heavy bag. The weight is in the base, not in the bag. I used it on a wood floor, and it slides a couple of inches with each hit or kick. Sounds like filling it with sand makes it heavier. I put some wide cinder blocks behind it against the wall and this worked to keep it in place (bags of tube sand would probably be even better). You need about a foot of space behind it as the bag flexes. If you have room for it to slide around you can guide its direction with your hits and kicks (if you opt to fill it with water). It is intended for contact at the end of your punch or kick, not to provide resistance like a heavy bag.
It only took about five minutes to work up a sweat. Currently I am in average condition for physically fit people. That is to say decent, non-competitive shape.
With a cup of coffee and some loud hard rock music I was able to trance out enough to not be bored for a good 20 minutes or so. Basically it provides a target, making it a step better than shadow boxing. My goals are fitness and to instill enough muscle memory so that should I reluctantly find myself in a brawl some technique might remain. Used in short 10-15 minute sessions this should provide some good aerobic activity several times a week. It is far less boring than an exercycle or treadmill.
If used in a corner with something behind it to keep it away from the wall and from moving it doesn't require a lot of space. If you have a basement to use it in that would make it much less bothersome to others. It isn't all that loud, but if you have downstair neighbors or housemates it would definitely get their attention. Others have attested to the durability of Wavemaster products and I see no reason not to believe it will last. Plan on using gloves with it, as the cordura type fabric will take the skin off your hands.
My qualifications are growing up with three brothers to box with and a heavy and speed bag. I've never had any formal boxing or martial arts training, though I make a keen study of televised mixed martial arts and kung fu movies. I'm also the veteran of several bar and street brawls from my younger less temperate days. During which any technique I might have acquired boxing with my brothers quickly disappeared in favor of what seems to be an instinctual hockey style, grabbing the shirt with one hand and jack hammering away with the other, garnering me a journeyman record of about 2-2-1. I still can't say what I regret more, the fights I got into or the ones I didn't.

I bought this for my 9yrs old son to use for karate and kickboxing. Works better then I thought it would. I hit it with all of my force and won't move an inch. The pad is strong and absorbs kicks and punches well. The only complain I have is the hole to put in the sand in is a little small. It took an hour to fill; but once filled its great. You can adjust the height so if I use it to exercise it won't be too small. This is a great punching bag. I highly recommend it.
