 Look Out--Almost a Great Design November 24, 2009

This case is extremely well designed, with a plastic exoskeleton then covered in rubber. This protects the phone from drops very well, which is lucky since the holster for the 3GS is determined to occasionally launch the iPhone off your belt and onto the concrete. I called Otterbox about this (mid Nov 09) and they confessed this is a known bug for the new 3GS. They are redesigning the holster to hold the phone more firmly, and expect the new design to be out in early 2010. They're nice people who want to take care of their customers and even offered to send me a new holster for free when it becomes available. But, unless you are willing to risk your phone hitting the ejection seat about once or twice a week, I would wait for the redesign before buying.
Great Case, Poor Screen Cover November 24, 2009

This case is great at protecting my iPhone 3GS but the oil spots are driving me crazy!!!!! Having to put a dash of baby powder on the screen cover every 4 days is getting old. Maybe the guys who created Otter Box will come up with a fix for this problem in the very near future. Besides that (big problem) it is a great case.

Good:
High level of protection.
Water resistant.
Adds a nice comfy feel to the otherwise small, delicate feel of the iPhone.
Doesn't affect sound or voice quality.
All of the push buttons work very well.
Looks nice.
Needs improvement:
Very easy to fall out of holster.
Somewhat difficult to turn it off of vibrate.
Hard to get "bubbles" out of screen protector.
Some aftermarket chargers (Griffin coiled) will not fit or are very tight.
Some audio jack plugs will not fit.
If the phone is flat on it's back, it is not slide resistant.
Overall:
I really like the case, but would love it if the sliding out of the holster problem would be fixed.

Great Product! Really protects the phone, and still allows for full functionality. My only complaint is that it prevents the phone from being docked in the Bose system, which isn't that big of a deal since you can buy extension cables for it. Overall I'm very satisfied with the otterbox, and the price through Amazon was great.

I bought the Otterbox because I like to have the phone clipped to my belt. I really like the rubber case that goes around the phone, it provides excellent protection for the phone. This is a great feature albeit a necessary one. The biggest drawback to this system is the plastic belt clip and phone holder. The clip holds the phone in with 2 plastic "nibs" on the side that click into 2 corresponding indents on the case. Unfortunately, these clips do not hold the phone very securely. I have had my phone fall out of the case at least 6 times in the month and a half I have had it. So far the protective rubber shell has done its job and the phone has survived several drops to the pavement. My fear is it will fall out and I won't hear it hit the ground and someone will get themselves a nice iphone! If the clip system was more secure, this would be the perfect system. Just beware.
