Titanium is an incredibly hard steel alloy (the military uses Titanium for tank armor) and it makes an excellent cutting surface for other, hard steels like stainless or spring steel. But Titanium steel has less ductile strength (flexibility) and can become brittle in some applications. So we start with a strong, high-carbon steel shaft manufactured for superior ductile strength and braze it with Titanium to get the best of both worlds: an incredibly sharp and hard cutting surface on a drill bit with some 'give'.
