Amazon.com Review This unique composter waters itself. An exclusive peaked lid lets in just enough rain to keep contents moist, allowing the rest to run off so compost won't get waterlogged. Heat-absorbing, 3/16-inch-thick, recycled polyethylene helps compost "cook". Side vents allow air circulation, while a large front door provides easy access. Zinc hardware adds a durable finishing touch. This composter assembles in minutes, and holds 12 cubic feet of compost at a time. It makes a great gift for your favorite eco warrior or green thumb. --Mary Park

Good composter April 28, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good, sturdy, compact composter. It cost a bit more than it probably should, which is why I gave it 4 stars, but I like it.
Doing the job... September 28, 2007 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
This bin was pretty easy to put together, and like the other reviews say, it has a heavy lid that doesn't blow off. So far, I've gotten a decent amount of compost from the bin.
If there are any drawbacks, they are: 1) the bottom of each side bulges out a bit from the pressure of the material compacted down there. I turn the material, but it's hard to get down there sometimes. 2) I have the optional rodent screen (a heavy gauge mesh screen placed at the bottom before filling), but I still have mice getting in and eating things. Pretty frustrating. 3) The sliding door at the bottom works, but compost/debris gets caught in the tracks as you close it, making it a bit of a game getting it completely closed.
All these aside, I still like the unit, and think it is worth the price -- it actually does compost pretty well and keeps the right amount of moisture in there for activity.
Good Product March 30, 2007 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Easy to assemble, excellent quality and ease of use, but, my compost did not break down very much over the fall and winter. I used leaves, dead plants, fruits, vegetables, egg shells and coffee grinds. Maybe I was missing ingredients.
So far, so good... April 2, 2006 27 out of 30 found this review helpful
Arrived in this huge box - not heavy - just a bit awkward. Very easy to assemble - sides slide together very nicely - 12 nuts and bolts to connect (with washers) - all provided. Only needed a screwdriver and an open-end wrench to assemble.
Lately, it's been very windy here in St Louis and the lid seems to be heavy enough to not blow off. The rain water flows into the compost quite well. The door on the front is embossed with the Gardener.com logo and slides up/down very easily.
I only have dead leaves/hosta/peony/iris stuff in it at the moment so it really hasn't produced anything yet. But then it's only been a week or so. Am anxiously awaiting anything that can help this pathetic clay soil we have.
5 stars for ease of assembly, 5 stars for sturdy construction, and 4 stars for product (since I don't have anything yet).
