Don't take even if free March 5, 2010 J. Norris (Decorah, IA) Got this printer for free with the purchase of an Apple laptop. Prints well and is easy to use, but goes through ink way too quick even on draft. I can get about 80 printed pages of Word documents on draft setting until the black ink needs to replaced. With ink costing around $15 - $20, this printer can get very expensive. I need to replace the blank ink every two weeks. With my old Lexmark, I could print easily 500 to 600 pages until I needed to replace the cartridge, and the ink is the same price. Stay away.
bang for your buck with the exception of cartridges March 4, 2010 Dinesh Masilamani (Dallas, TX) this printer is amazing and solved all our problems. the only drawback (and rightfully so) is that there is no document feeder to scan and copy. it is very fast for household printing chores but the printer ink seems to empty faster. overall, very satisfied
HP is evil and so is this printer. March 2, 2010 kelly1kanobee (San Francisco, CA USA) Ever since I decided to use recycled cartridge produced by another company but technically compatible with this model, my printer has decided (a) to take 15 minutes to print every document; (b) not to scan anything; (c) not to show me my ink levels anymore. I know the two are linked because my printer warned me that installing someone else's cartridge was not okay. Seriously, this message popped up on my screen. Because I wasn't using HP toner, I was no longer entitled to use my printer's features. The printer I ALREADY BOUGHT WITH MY OWN MONEY!!!!
I HATE THIS STUPID PRINTER AND I HATE HP!!!!!!
Why is this not a class-action lawsuit by now? HP should not have the right to deactivate certain functions of my printer just because I used another (perfectly compatible) recycled printer cartridge.
I need to scan something and now I can't because stupid HP decides to punish me for using someone else's cartridge. And when it does print, now it takes 30 minutes.
I want my money back.
Okay, but a minor problem with Macs February 25, 2010 T. Buddenbrook (Ann Arbor, MI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
On the whole the product is a very good value for the price. Printer function works fine, as does the copier. Very intuitive. However, at first the scanner wouldn't work at all with my MacBook. Looked around on the discussion forums about this printer and learned that this is a common problem with Mac users. By digging around, I was eventually able to learn about a workaround (going to System Preferences and operating the scanner from there). This is an adequate, if somewhat awkward solution, but at least it works.
DO NOT BUY February 23, 2010 K. Gargiullo This really ought to be a great product. It's not like they built it cheaply, and the photo printing and the touchscreen and everything are really quite nice. I've also used the scanning, and although the software they have isn't the best, if you just scan things through photoshop or some other program, I have no complaints with it. Unfortunately, anything good I could say about this product is completely overwhelmed by one fatal flaw.
THIS PRINTER IS COMPLETELY INCAPABLE OF PICKING UP ONE SHEET OF PAPER AT A TIME.
No, seriously. I've never had this problem with any other printer, and I've been using HPs all my life. You put the paper in, and it says it's out of paper. You push it in a bit more so it can grab the paper, it grabs five or ten sheets at a time, then either prints on all of them at once or just jams up. There is no middle ground. Big disappointment. (Two stars because when it works, it's beautiful, it just doesn't work most of the time.)
