SPACE AGE BACHELOR PAD! January 12, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
if you can imagine that, you can hear it in this music. everything which is exactly inverse musically of the 90's and 00's goth and emo kids is vociferated with Juan Garcia Esquivel. Yes, it is OK to be happy. Yes it is ok to have jazz guitar and flute, and what i even think is a harpsichord on one of the tracks! Not gonna get into technical stuff. Just listen and enjoy. WOW. Now where did i put that jet pack?
Overall Too Campy But Some Worthwile Lounge June 9, 2005 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
Esquivel was a lounge pianist during the heyday of lounge (late 50s through 60s) whose songs are really over-the-top everything-but-the-kitchen-sink extravaganzas, entertaining but often too campy for my tastes. Most of the songs have a Latin flavor. I think about half the songs are worthwile for anyone who likes the retro lounge pop, including "El Cable", "Malaguena", "Estrellita", "Limehouse Blues", "April In Portugal", "Take the A Train", "It Had To Be You", "Yeyo", and "Flower Girl From Bordeaux".
a nice place to get to know Esquivel January 18, 2002 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
RCA gives you a sampling of all of Juan's domestic recordings here and the sound is on par with the import Esquivel CD releases. But be warned, once you hear Juan you are going to want to buy the entire collection!
Gotta have it... September 26, 1999 13 out of 18 found this review helpful
My partner and I love to have a late afternoon cocktail, put in our Esquivel, and sit back and enjoy. That's REALLY what this album is ALL about.. Cheers, dears!
