Amazon.com This two-CD, 25-song set, recorded in Louisville on two nights in the spring of 2002, finds bluegrass's most celebrated crossover band at the top of its game. Krauss's warm, feathery vocals, capable of conveying complex emotions in a single note, appear more full-bodied than in studio recordings, yet lose none of their sensual appeal or dramatic tension. She's perfect, for example, as the melancholy temptress on "Let Me Touch You for Awhile," coming across as both savior and seductress, while Jerry Douglas's Dobro echoes the searing strains of passion and pain. With banjoist-guitarist Ron Block, bassist Barry Bales, and guest drummer Larry Atamanuik anchoring the rhythm, the ensemble deftly blends bluegrass with jazz, rock, and folk, combining lightning speed (though rushing through "Forget About It") with sophisticated chops, tangible emotion, and thrilling vocal blends. The crowd, more spellbound with every note, doesn't even breathe on "Ghost in This House" and nearly tears the place down on Dan Tyminski's voice-of-George Clooney showcase, "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow." But who could blame them? It's only one highlight on an album of uncommon artistry, a moving testament to how good live music can be in the hands of world-class players. --Alanna Nash

Incredible Recording Quality June 28, 2008 This is one of the best, if not the best recorded concert out there. If you can find a SACD or LP copy if this, it is worth buying a record player or SACD player JUST FOR THIS. I'm not even kidding. However, the CD is still awesome. Just make sure if you upload it to your computer, do it lossless. This was recorded using the best mics out there with the audience recored also. Because of this, you hear some crowd noise with an absolutely "you are there" feeling. It's hard to explain, but there is a lot of air in this recording. It's like they recorded the whole atmosphere of the concert hall. I can't recommend this enough.
One of the best EVER! June 20, 2008 This album (a collection of songs that AKUS has recorded over the years at a live concert) is easily one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. I'm not a fan of honky-tonk country, but I found a love of bluegrass and the amazing insturmentation that goes with it when I first started listening to this group. From the first song they had me hooked. What amazes me most is that this entire album was recorded live, which just goes to show how talented they all are. The bits of audience reaction that are included do not get in the way of flow of the songs, but actually add to excitement of the songs. I loved it so much that I bought the DVD of the concert as well (also great with some documentaries). If you have other albums by AKUS or Alison Kraus, this is a must have! It has the very best of AKUS from the last 15 years.
I love this CD June 18, 2008 Awesome is the only way to describe this CD. Alison and company are brilliant musicians and vocalists. Every song is finely crafted. When Alison sings, it lifts my heart. "Beautiful" does not begin to describe it.
A great live album May 13, 2008 "Wow" is the best way to describe the experience of listening to this 2 CD set. I can't imagine a better helping of bluegrass and alt country than what I hear on these sides. The instrumentals are blistering, Alison's vocals are breathtaking, and the all around musicianship is nothing but outstanding. There may be purists who know of better versions of the standards in this repertoire, but I'll take these any day.
A must-have! March 24, 2008 This is a must-have piece of music! Incredible musicians, absolutely delightful music. There is also a DVD available of this concert, which is also a must-have. The DVD includes a lot of talking--hey, it's a recording of a live concert--but the performance is excellent. The CD doesn't have all the talking. GET THEM BOTH!!!
