 Good but not Walls of Jericho August 18, 2008
Slow songs almost like ballads. A depressive sound. A singing front woman instead of shouting. No riffs. And this is from a (metal?) Hardcore band.
Do not be disappointed. This is not Walls of Jericho that we know of. If you want to check out what they are into with a little support from Corey Taylor of Slipknot, then check it out. The EP is cheap, so it is a good value.
On the contrary if you like ...Jericho for tempo changes, aggressive lyrics, hardcore feeling and good riffs, this is not for you. Go for the entire catalogue, but not for this.

like so many other bands in hardcore, walls of jericho has taken the road most traveled, and have consistently released albums that don't quite live up to the one that came before it. sure candace sings very well, so what? we all know this from "the bound feed the gagged," musically, this ep is uninspired and very bland. with this release, woj has definitely left the hardcore scene for greener($$) pastures.

I am very glad that the price reflects the amount of songs you get. This cd is nothing like there other music, so be pre-warned. Great job on doing something different. I am not much for cover tunes but the one on this cd was done very well. I am very happy with this purchase.

No Saving Me was on the last CD. 4 songs for 5 bucks all of which are over four minutes. While the songs are "nice" , either the group is testing the water or they are lost. I applaud their work and try to see them when they're around with the last time at B.B KINGS w/ 36 Crazy Fists, In This Moment and Kittie, but you would think if you hooked up w/someone as talented as Cory Taylor, 8 songs shouldn't be stretch. Walls of Jericho doesn't exactly have a large catalog of work. Overall nothing memorable and 3 stars here is generous.

First I'd like to say that I really like this EP and although it contains 5 songs only 4 of them are new.
With that said, I've been a big fan of Walls of Jericho since 2005 and I even got to see them in concert at ozzfest and I got their autographs and I hope to see them in concert again. I have loved every EP and album they have put out and I knew that I was going to like their EP Redemption before I even heard it as the band always puts out high quality music. Let me tell you this one doesn't disappoint at all and it's of the same high quality production that you've come to expect from Walls of Jericho.
It also seemed to me that for their first 4 CDs that Candace seemed angry at the world and it showed in their music and lyrics.
Then along comes "With Devils Amongst Us All" which had all the heaviness that you'd expect from Walls of Jerico but with a Candace that isn't so angry at the world any more.
Most people know and love Walls Of Jericho for the fact that they are a 5-piece hardcore band that is fronted by Candace Kucsulain who has the vocals to rival many other females in the screamo/hardcore scene and also some of the men in the scene. Walls of Jericho are now back with a brand new EP which is totally unlike anything they have made before, this time around the band have taken a totally different approach and taken on the idea of making an acoustic EP.
I know what you may be saying that they've whimped out on us and gone soft. This EP retains all the elements that make up the Walls of Jericho sound. This may come as a shock to some of the bands fans and will come as a pleasant surprise to others. Everybody here knows that Walls of Jericho plays Hardcore in general but they will be surprised to discover that their new EP is an acoustic release. Strange for a really aggressive band, but not so strange if you had listened to their last album as the hinted at it with the songs "Angel" and "No Saving Me".
The good surprise of "Redemption" comes from the voice of Candace Kucsulain. This EP is the proof that Candace can sing with the best of them. Her voice is a bit hoarse, but is sounds like a real rock voice.
The songs are soft and calm and Candace seems no longer angry at the world as hinted in their first 4 CDs. "Redemption" is an acoustic EP of dark and sad folk music but at least we have a lot of emotions on this release, that's both new and fresh, especially for Walls of Jericho but since it's well done, that's just perfect for what it is an EP. Maybe some fans will dislike this release but if they're a bit open minded and can understand that it can be a good thing for a band to release such original album and refreshing take on a hardcore scene gone a bit stale.
"Redemption" was produced by the front man of Slipknot/Stone Sour and he even sings on three songs. Corey vocals are a perfect addition to the voice of Candace. The sound of the album is really good and I can say that it's a perfect recording. You'll even have the chance to listen to a good cover of the hit song "House Of The Rising Sun" which is a cover of The Animals classic.
Ember Drive
This song is an extremely mellow introduction and before long Candace Kucsulain's chilled out sing a long vocals come in which run up to the dual chilled out mixed vocals from both Candace and Corey Taylor which works really well sung at the same time, The song reminds me of something that Stone Sour would do but I think that's because of Corey Taylor's vocals or because of the acoustic guitar sounds.
My Last Stand
This song is vocally one of the strongest tracks on the EP, Candace's singing really shines here and could easily match that of Amy Lee if not better than.
No Saving Me
This song is from their album "With Devils Amongst Us All" and is another vocally stunning song and the acoustic instruments are quite nice.
House Of The Rising Sun
This song the band do an acoustic cover of the classic song that is about a life that has gone wrong in New Orleans and has been covered many times in the past by both male and female fronted bands. I have always liked the song and think Walls of Jericho pull it off so well, Candace's vocals really brings the song to life. I put it right up there with The Animals version that they cover.
Addicted
This song is another one of the songs that features Corey Taylor's vocals, his vocals here are quite nice like they are when he's with Stone Sour, this song is the most upbeat song on the EP even though it is still quite melodic and the acoustic guitar playing really does up it's tempo the longer the song goes on and the duel vocals become louder in a sing a long fashion.
Redemption is a project that Walls of Jericho have been thinking of doing for over six years now and I bet they are extremely excited and proud that they have finally carried off the project, the band have had singing vocals in their previous material. I have always been a fan of acoustic music and it's such a pleasure to hear a band of Walls of Jericho's caliber carrying off this sound and it shows what talented musicians they are being able to carry off their well known screamo sound as well as a more sing a long sound.
Most people should find this EP fun and breathtaking as the band have shown a new depth of creativity and a totally new sound, but if you are one of the fans who doesn't like it when a band changes their sound all I can say is to give it a chance and you'll be really surprised as to how good it is, but then again it's from Wall of Jericho so you already know before getting it as to how good it is.
