| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com For centuries the world over, mothers (and fathers) have been cradling, cooing, and crooning to babies and small children with song. There's scarcely a one of us that cannot recall a particularly gentle song a special someone sang for a wee self--to calm, soothe, and aid slumber. This tender music is to the soul what mother's milk is to the body, and we call it the lullaby. Rooted in age-old tradition, Lullaby: A Collection presents an even dozen lullabies from around the globe. Particularly beguiling are the African "Be Still My Child" by Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the traditional Spanish "A La Nanita Nana" as sung by Tish Hinojosa, and Bobby McFerrin's "Common Thread," which you may recognize as the theme from the American documentary Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt. Other featured artists include Sweet Honey in the Rock, Judy Collins, Derek Bell, and Loreena McKennitt. --Paige La Grone

Almost Perfect August 21, 2008 A close friend bought us this CD when I got pregnant.
I played it on a loop for my daughter for the earliest months when she slept and now play it when I'm trying to wind her down at nap time. It's really soothing and calming. If i'm tired when i put it on my eye lids begin to weigh a pound each.
My one complaint is one song, I think it's by take 6, that all the sudden gets very loud. I have to keep the entire volume super low or be prepared to skip that one loud song. An annoying flaw in an otherwise really lovely compilation.
(Tip: Just cut a new CD with your favorites, you'll inevitably like most of these.)
Love the first half, like the second August 7, 2008 We all have different taste in music, but for me the first half of this CD is the loveliest. The music is a bit faster and louder toward the end, which doesn't make sense to me since this is when your baby will be (hopefully!) sleeping. The Golden Cradle song has become our favorite (song 2).
12 years and still going strong July 30, 2008 Excellent, soothing, beautiful music. Great harmonies. My daughter has been going to sleep to this for years -- we never tire of it! We have been through a tape and 2 CD's. Sounds crazy, and we have lots of other music. Yet, this is one that soothes us all with so much folky, interesting music. I often give this as a baby or baby shower present.
Lullaby is for anyone July 3, 2008 I first discovered this CD when I was working in the Children's Section of a large bookstore. Since then, it has been a popular baby gift, but I keep a copy for myself. Everyone needs a lullaby now and then.
Still the ONE April 26, 2008 Our daughter has listened to this lullaby tape since her earliest nights. Now she is 7 and a half years old, and of all the great music choices available for her listening pleasure, this one is still her favorite to drift off to sleep with. I must admit I love it too. I logged on to see about getting the CD version, thinking it might be a good idea in case the tape eventually wears out (it hasn't yet) because yes, it really is that good! I have fallen asleep to it myself. It is a masterpiece. The music is high quality, soothing and promotes a feeling of security and peacefulness that naturally calms and relaxes even the most restless soul.
