5 out of 5 stars The Third Time's A Charm!   July 11, 2008
Where Taj Mahal was a sometimes-interesting look inside Jon Oliva's closet of demos and Maniacal Renderings was a hit-and-miss step up as a sophomore release, Global Warning hits the nail on the head. 15 excellent tracks (counting the 2-for Touch Someone/Souls and the extra track No More Saturday Nights) that recall the best of both 80's and 90's Savatage! Most of the lyrics are simply wonderful with Jon bearing his soul much as he did on 1991's STREETS album, which I feel is his crowning achievement and the best Savatage release.

The band is at the top of their game here, sounding even better than their first go-round on the first Circle II Circle album. Worth singling out is Matt LaPorte, who eerily seems to be channeling the sprit of Criss Oliva in much of Global Warning's fretwork.

Highly recommended pick of the year, along with Circle II Circle's Delusions Of Grandeur, which also showcases that band at their best, as well.

5 out of 5 stars Another Great Album by Jon   June 25, 2008
What can I say but good job? Jon Oliva produces another great album and shows why he is one of the best songwriters in metal. This stacks up well with his previous two albums and fans of Savatage will like this one too.

5 out of 5 stars jon olivas pain   June 7, 2008
This another great release from oliva and the boys.Lots of different musical styles on this release. Some songs are really heavy like savatage, dr.butcher style and others I can relate queen, and the beatles too.Overall a must have.

thanks guys

2 out of 5 stars Not That Good!   June 5, 2008

First let me say I am a huge Oliva fan that dates back to Savatage's beginning. But I am dissapointed in this release. Maniacal Renderings was a much "heavier" album that was more true to the Sava sound. This work, while definately diverse, as I believe Jon himself said, is no prize to my ears. I like maybe 4 tracks off the album, which is a bad buy in my opinion. So, those who have rated this 5 or even 6 stars, please....what have you been listening too? Testament,Helloween, and Megadeth have all released better albums recently than this bottom of the trash barrel group of songs.
I mean no disrespect to the work of Jon Oliva or his band, but this one just wasn't what the fans wanted. It's o.k. if you guy's wanted to put this out, but in the future I will listen before I buy blindly.
I am just not moved at all by the compositions in this album. It has a very "done" before feel. I really hope Jon is not at the end of his writing career, as he is an awesome and talented fellow who I enjoy listening too in Savatage, Trans Siberian, Dr. Butcher, and his newly crowned J.O.P. So heads up guy's, make a better album next time. And Jon, how about that Savatage DVD???
