Amazon.com Pierce Brosnan takes a step away from James Bond with his malevolent role in Shattered. Neil Randall (Gerard Butler) seems a loving father and the perfect husband for his happy wife Abby (Maria Bello). But when the two leave their daughter with a babysitter and drive off, a man with a gun (Brosnan) appears in their backseat and puts them through a series of tests that threaten to destroy their marriage. Shattered is a taut little thriller that comes to a not entirely satisfying end; once we learn what's behind the kidnapper's games, the air goes out of the movie. But as it goes along, Shattered has a lot of momentum, mystery, and tension, and the solid cast keeps the emotions gritty and intense. Brosnan works his steely-eyed squint, Butler practically foams at the mouth with repressed rage, and Bello manages to be frightened, determined, and sexy, all at the same time. Keep your expectations low and Shattered will be an enjoyable thriller. --Bret Fetzer

Great Actors, Poor Script August 31, 2008 Shattered (Butterfly On A Wheel) is the story of Neil and Abby Randall (played by Gerard Butler and Maria Bello) who find there perfect life shattered at the hands of a kidnapper, Tom Ryan (played by Pierce Brosnan). Tom Ryan informs the couple that they have 24 hours to do as he says, or he will kill the Randall's daughter. It is here that this thriller gets moving.
Overall, Shattered isn't a bad thriller. The story is a good one, and the acting is very good. But what ultimately shatters Shattered is the poor script. The dialog between characters is poorly crafter, leaving this strong pool of actors with very little to work with other than cliches.
Also, you find yourself saying (over and over again): "she should have...", "why didn't he...", and "I can't believe they didn't do so and so, I would have...". The story isn't believable because the protagonists don't do what you and I would do in a similiar situation.
This is a ewist of a movie?? August 25, 2008 This movie has lots of twist in it. It blew me away by far. Surprise the hell out of me. First you thought it was a kidnapping. But it was more than that. Great movie!!
Not bad action flick! August 23, 2008 This was not bad....not great, but did hold alot of action. Was surprised that it was as good as it was. Worth watching.
Unexpectedly Awesome July 27, 2008 I think this movie was just awesome. Everyone did a great job in their roles and I recommend it to anyone with children, although I don't recommend the children watch it. This story is about a man who has the so-called perfect life. He has a great job, a great wife, a beautiful daughter and things just can't seem to get any better. Then out of nowhere his daughter is kidnapped and his entire world is turned upside down, and I mean devestatingly turned upside down. I suggest renting it and seeing for yourself. In my opinion this is one of the better films I've seen. The story is strong and the plot intensifies with every scene. I hope you'll take a chance on this film as I did and rent it.
I knew nothing about this film ... thank goodness. June 29, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
The less you know, the better. I was flipping through the free on-demand movies offered by TW Cable last night. It was nearing midnight and nothing else was on. I stumbled across "Shattered" and decided, what the heck. I had never heard of it. Before watching, I had planned to watch a few minutes of it then go to bed. Problem was, it was so riviting I couldn't turn it off. (Is that a problem?) I just had to know what was going to happen. I ended up staying up 'til 1:30a watching it, and I'm glad I did. It was one of those movies that literally had me saying "wow!" at the end of it. What a great movie. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
