This original, 1987 all-animated Chipmunk movie is a worldwide adventure featuring the Chipmunks, Chipettes, international crooks, various thugs, and a healthy dose of danger, natural disaster, famous scenery, and cute little animals. It all starts when Dave Seville leaves Alvin, Theodore, and Simon Chipmunk home under the care of Ms. Miller while he travels to Europe on business. Sore at being left behind, Alvin challenges Brittany from the Chipettes to the video game "Around the World" and his boast that he could beat her traveling around the world in a real hot air balloon is overheard by Claudia and Klaus, a pair of international crooks searching for an innocent courier to deliver a load of illegal diamonds to various places around the world. The crooks wager a million dollars on the Chipmunks and Chipettes to see who can race around the world the fastest, providing the hot air balloons, all necessary supplies, and the promise of $100,000 to the winner. Stalked by various thugs and encountering obstacles that range from hurricanes to snakes, tribes bent on worshiping and then sacrificing Alvin, and even a baby penguin that needs to be reunited with its parents in Antarctica, the Chipmunks and Chipettes sing their way around the globe, defeating villains that cross their paths and eventually learning the truth about the illegal cargo they're transporting. In the end, the Chipmunks and Chipettes combine forces in hopes of bringing Claudia and Klaus to justice while ensuring they all return home in one piece. This fantastical Chipmunk journey is suspenseful, funny, full of catchy music, and appropriate for ages 5 and older.  The Chipmunk Adventure August 7, 2008
My 5 year old daughter and I found bits and pieces of this movie on youtube. She particularly fell in love with the song "Girls of Rock & Roll." She asked me to play it so many times that I had to go out and find the video. I grew up with the Chipmunks and the addition of 'The Chippettes' was a very smart piece of work. The movie is wonderful if you're 5, but adults won't want to see it more than once (if that.)
Chipsmunks live on and on July 7, 2008
Many cartoon characters are recognizable but none have changes with the times as well as the chipmunks. The DVD is chock full of songs and my grand children love it. Their deistintive high pitched voices gives them the characters that they are. If you enjoy cartoons as much as I do, you'll love this DVD.

My daughter requested this DVD because she was very young when we had it on VHS. It was her favorite chipmunk movie. I totally recommend it!

My sister actually bought this and brought it over to watch at my apartment the other day. I'm 24 and she's 20 but we had both watched this when we were younger (it actually came out a year before my sister was born!) and loved it then. Watching it the other day was the first time we had seen it since we were quite small and it was as fun and amusing as we remembered.
Then and now we love the idea of traveling around the world and doing fun (and sometimes dangerous) things. The songs are cute and funny. My sister and I got a particular kick out of watching Brittany and Jeanette try to snake charm with the song about "gettin' lucky with you." I'd actually love to hear some of those songs non-Chipmunkified so that it'd be easier to sing along with but they are perfectly fun to sing as is too.
When we were little we liked Alvin and Brittany the best as characters but as adults we found them to be annoying and liked characters like Simon much better. His dry humor when he instructs Alvin to put the balloon by the fountain and Alvin sticks it in the trees ("Like I said, in the tree.") made us crack up. We never used to like him.
Anyway I found it adorable and I'm buying a copy for myself now.
