WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK: ORIGINAL SONGS BY KAREN O AND THE KIDS

ALBUM OUT SEPTEMBER 29!

DIGITAL SINGLE "ALL IS LOVE" OUT AUGUST 25!

MOTION PICTURE IN THEATERS OCTOBER 16!

Inside Karen O is a Wild Thing - as singer for the Grammy-nominated Yeah Yeah Yeahs, her wild thing is in your face, vulnerable, obnoxious, tender, exciting... a self-proclaimed "spazoid." To Oscar-nominated Where the Wild Things Are director Spike Jonze, however, Karen O and her music possess something of a child-like innocence, a guileless charm that put her exactly on the right emotional wavelength to sonically capture the film, be it a tender moment or a wild rumpus.

To compose the music, O enlisted friends and fellow musicians she believed had a musical intuition that would bolster her intent to marry sound to vision. Dubbed Karen O and the Kids, these include Tristan Bechet (Services), Tom Biller (co-producer with Karen O and member of Afternoons), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter), Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs), Aaron Hemphill (Liars), Greg Kurstin (The Bird and the Bee), Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, The Greenhornes), Oscar Michel (Gris Gris), Imaad Wasif (New Folk Implosion, Alaska), Nick Zinner, (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and an untrained children's choir.

Album Description
Soundtrack to the long-awaited 2009 motion picture. The score was written and performed by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and her friends, including members of Services, Afternoons, Deerhunter, Queens Of The Stoneage, The Dead Weather, Raconteurs, Liars and others. Where The Wild Things Are is the film version of one the most beloved books of all time, written by Maurice Sendak. Universal. 2009.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful for children to listen to!   November 18, 2009

I play this CD in the car when I pick up my 5 year-old from school. Since I also have an infant, it keeps her calm in the car. My 5 year-old finds the music calming as well and gives her a moment to unwind until we get home. The children's voices are purely magical!

5 out of 5 stars BEST SOUNDTRACK ALBUM IN A WHILE!!!!   November 10, 2009
wally gator (USA)
I took the kid to see this movie. It was good although I must confess, from being a Sopranos fan all those years, James Gandolfini as the main "wild thing" was sort of tough to handle. I felt that more of the kids in the theater should have been more scared of the animal's erratic and aggressive behavior. Like when he punches a hole in the wall, I was like "sh**! That kid is DEAD!"

Easily for me though, it was the soundtrack that made the film. Entirely original (I think one song was a Daniel Johnson cover, but...) and essential to the flow of the movie overall. And, a great album! About half way through, I was already thinking about where I could get the record on the way home.

I think that the soundtrack makes a great album for a few reasons. First off, but not mainly, due to the content, it is a family friendly outing. Kids will enjoy it as much as adults (although, I think adults will like it more)... Karen O is great at playing the part of an angry kid, and though she may not ever get as loud as she does on any Yeah Yeah Yeahs record, she still has a way of expressing the "wild" side,,, while remaining smooth and subtle enough to play for a kid before bed time. In fact, while there are a few upbeat tunes like HEADS UP and ALL IS LOVE, there are alot of mellower moments in the mix... my favorite track here is the dreamy surreal HIDEAWAY.

Still expect a few hoots and hollers from the kids though in tracks like RUMPUS. Several songs actually have a chorus of kid singers, but it's not over done, and it works. The album is very well put together, and one I'm sure I will still enjoy with out any kids around. Good stuff! P.S> The Arcade Fire song is not here... just thought I'd throw that in. *This review is for the LP vinyl edition*

1 out of 5 stars Not a good CD for the purpose I was hoping for   November 8, 2009

I confused this CD for the band that is playing the main tune in the movie trailer. If you want that song...look for Arcade Fire and their 'Funeral' album. 'Wake Up' is song #7. If you go to youtube, you can see Arcade Fire and David Bowie playing that song on stage--It really rocks.
I found the WTWTA soundtrack CD too abstract for me to enjoy, and nothing really grabbed my attention. It was not something I wanted to listen to over and over again in my car while stuck in traffic. Though the music is cute and artistic, and I like kids participating in the making of the songs, I just had to go back to my Sammy Hagar CDs which leave me more satisfied.
I have not seen the movie yet because it's not really the kids movie I was hoping it would be. Better to enjoy Disney's Little Mermaid and buy that soundtrack.

So you saw the movie and you liked the soundtrack so now your reading the reviews. The answer is yes. Buy the MP3 album. If you liked what you heard in the movie there's more on this disc. Infatuation here you come.

5 out of 5 stars So Playful!!   October 26, 2009

Brings back memories of childhood. A very pleasant and unintrusive nostalgia that makes you want to play with someone.
