Good, but weak compared to previous albums November 18, 2009 E. Bilger (Wash DC) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm a huge FFF fan, and I had high hopes for this album. "Message for Albert," "America Town," and ESPECIALLY "The Battle for Everything" are excellent albums. "The Battle.." is one of my all time favorites. I thought "Two Lights" was just okay, and was hoping FFF would again soar with "Slice." Unfortunately, we are given an overproduced, fluffy album that lacks the lyrical and melodic depth of John's early work. Slice and Chances are incredibly catchy, but that's about all they are. This Dance and Augie Nieto are also highlights, but just aren't enough. The rest of the tracks I skip.
If I hadn't heard FFF before, I would think the album was pretty good. But compared to previous albums, I'm only left disappointed because FFF has so much more potential. Unfortunately.
Tremendous November 13, 2009 ironman96 (Ohio) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This album is tremendous. You know how some CDs have a couple of good songs but the rest are only okay or not so good? "Slice" is the rare album where each song is a quality song. Five For Fighting puts out some of the best pop-rock and piano ballads going, and this album shows why. Especially nice are the songs "Slice" and "Chances." Also, thanks to John Ondrasik for another great song honoring the American serviceman, "Note to an Unknown Soldier." In an era where artists increasingly trash American ideals its refreshing to see an artist that honors them. This is an awesome CD for fans of Five For Fighting and even those that are new to the sound. Highly recommended.
Worth every penny! November 12, 2009 M. REYES-BURKE (Kailua, Hawaii) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Before I bought this album, more than one reviewer here (and on iTunes) have said that this may be the best FFF ever. I have to agree.
John Ondrasik is a genius with his thoughtful lyrics and beautiful melodies. My personal favorites are "This Dance" (what a love song!), "Note to the Unknown Soldier" (brings a tear to my eye), "Augie Nieto" (for the founder of Augie's Quest), and of course, "Chances" and "Slice." "Tuesday" is about 9/11 and the melancholy melody says it all for me. I also enjoy "Above the Timberline" so much. The rest of the album is really great, too.
I can't wait for the acoustic version of these awesome songs!!!
It's that good November 11, 2009 J. Tannous 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This album is really that good, all 11 songs are easy on the ears, my favourite songs are "Slice", "Chances" & "This dance".
Bridget's Review November 4, 2009 bridget3420 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love music. I sit here typing up reviews and I have my iTunes playing most of the time. Music has a calming effect on me even if it's one of those screaming bands. I have an appreciation for all music (except for country, I just can't get into it) and I listen to different types depending on my mood.
For me, Five For Fighting is a great CD to listen to when I want to hear something that has meaning and when you think about the words, you feel like you can better understand life. I give this CD 5 stars!
