| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The presence of Diana Krall as producer as well as backup musician, along with some of her own regular backup musicians, may suggest that this is Barbra Streisand's "jazz" album with her voice substituted for Krall's. Certainly, it's easy to imagine Krall singing this batch of songs instead of Streisand for one of her typical jazz chart-toppers. But a better model for the disc really is the 1950s concept albums of Frank Sinatra, specifically one of the ballad albums, since the mood is low-key and the music minor-key. A piano, played either by Krall, Tamir Hendelman, Alan Broadbent, or Bill Charlap, occupies the front of the mix, sometimes joined by Robert Hurst's bass or Paulinho Da Costa's percussion, and the background is filled by an ambient soundscape of strings arranged and conducted by Johnny Mandel. Over this, Streisand sings in her characteristic manner, if with a bit more restraint than usual.

KUDOS FOR FINALLY GOING BACK TO THE M49!!! November 20, 2009 L. Bell (Canada ASAP) FANTASTIC WORK, the BEST in DECADES. Thanks for going back to the Neumann M49 that G-d Himself MADE for your voice, with all its luscious tube fatness and tickle the ear high-mid treble bite.
Now all you need is a bit more echo, in mono return, straight up the middle (not "stereo" out of phase panned to the sides), preferably with the send to a tape machine first and super hot, and people will finally hear that it wasn't your voice that aged over the years, it was those horrific sizzly "newer" Neumann mics and the LACK of distortion in the vocal track and echo that made it SEEM so.
Brilliant. Thank you SO MUCH FOR COMING HOME!
Kudos to the mic selection on the orchestra as well. Finally the tonal balance (between the music tracks and the vocal) so wrong for decades is RIGHT ON.
quartet better than over-orchestrated version November 19, 2009 R. Hatchette (LA) Put this on the changer in the office with some Buble, Safina, etc. Like the less over-produced CD in the double set. Nice to have a choice.
Still Great, Fabulous Albumn November 18, 2009 the bear (Mesa, AZ) Great albumn, actually two discs. Disc 1 backup is an orchestra, Disk 2 backup is a quartet. If you like old standards and Barbara you will love this albumn. Her voice gets a little scratchy for a momment or two on a couple of songs but overall she continues to be songbird with a rich mellow voice. Not one so so song.
Love Love Love It! November 16, 2009 John Watkins (The Woodlands, TX) This is a great cd! I love to have it on in the background. My current favorite is "If you go away." It is very haunting.
Her voice is better than ever. As she gets older her voice is getting richer, I feel. I like her sound now better than when she first started out.
Bottom line: Get this! It is well worth the money.
DISC 2, ME TOO !!! November 14, 2009 Leandro J. Seoane (North Miami Beach, FL United States) FOR YEARS I HAD WONDERED WHY STREISAND NEVER RECORDED ALBUMS WITH A JAZZ FORMAT. THIS IS THE WAY TO GO. I HAD MOVED AWAY FROM STREISAND TO SINGERS LIKE NANCY LAMOTT, CAROL SLOANE, AND ELLA SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN TO REALIZE AT MY OLDER AGE (EARLY FORTIES) THAT JAZZ IS THE WAY TO GO. PLEASE KEEP ON RECORDING WITH THIS FORMAT. YOUR PRODIGAL FAN, THAT HAS COME BACK! LEANDRO
