Long Overdue. November 21, 2009 Kev…. (MI) I feel really bad about posting this review, for 2 reasons,
1. I am personally acquainted with this artist, and I am finally giving him his just due.
2. I call myself a music lover, but I hesitated to shout his praise because I couldn't dismiss the fear of not appearing unbiased by an honest review, so here it is.
This Album is incredible!
I refused to get caught up in the "hype" of On the Ocean, although a great song in itself, not just because it is an instant ballroom "classic", but the lyrics make it a timeless classic. Just hearing it as a wedding song proved it this summer. Nice job, K'Jon. Listening to the C'd, When I got to "This Time", I was blown away. He is the real deal, and I look forward to more of his music, grown folks music.
This album is deep and meaningful, but unlike Maxwell, his lyrics are accessible to 100% of his audience... In other words, he sings about things everyone can relate to, without being abstract. You could work harder trying to interpret what other artist's mean, but why would you want to. I see what the Bible says is true, "A Prophet is not honored in his home territory". I guess the same can be said of a great R&B Singer. Well done K'Jon. I know that I shouldn't be the one to call them out, especially after it took me longer than it should have to give you well deserved credit, but I hope the Grammy's don't wait too long to give you your props.
K. Kennedy / Detroit.
K'Jon is awesome November 18, 2009 Anita Chapel (Indianapolis, IN USA) I think this style of music is appropriate and is easy listening. His voice reminds me of BeBe Winans. My favorite song is the Ocean which is why I bought the album. I liked the songs and I think everyone will be surprised by this album.
"I Get Around" gets two stars October 26, 2009 Shallowharold (Selma,AL) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like many people, I heard "On The Ocean" as well as "This Time" and wondered who is this K'Jon? So his album has arrived and it's called "I Get Around". Before you start asking questions, the title track is about how he is happy to get some attention and airplay after years of paying dues...sorry, it's not about sex. So I got the album and here's the problem...while he can do ballads effortlessly, when he does the uptempo songs, he just sounds awkward and out of his element. The songs "Doin' It Big" and "What's Really Good?" are songs for the clubs that sound rather pedestrian. I wanted to like the album, but only the singles and the ballads stand out. Hopefully, he will do better on the sophomore effort.
Welcome to a new soulful balladeer. October 5, 2009 LP Johnson (Harlem, , NY, USA, World) Welcome to newcomer to the music scene, K-Jon. Just what today's music needed a new soulful balladeer. When I first heard the hit single, On the Ocean, I thought it was BeBe Winans. Who knew it was some new dude called K-Jon? Who can't identify with a song with a message...undoubtedly we can all can relate to the idea of good fortune looming just over the horizon. Two great ballads on this cd.
I Get Around October 3, 2009 Glenn R. Hall The Return of smooth and soothing sounds of soul.K'Jons I get around takes you on a journey into musical interludes. The passion that he get's across is easily felt in the tracks.Obviously his smash hit"Ocean"is the centerpiece of the CD,however tracks like "This Time"and "After The Club"are great examles of his R-B potential. Not many of the tracks if any disappoint if you enjoy smooth ballads.I highly recommend this CD to all lovers of smooth R-B!!
